Field up-date on Gaza from the Humanitarian Coordinator | 17 - 23 Feb 2009OCHA - Violent incidents continue to undermine the Gaza cease-fire. A Palestinian farmer was reportedly injured by Israeli troops firing into the Khan Yunis area from the Gaza-Israeli border on 18 February. On 17 February, an Israeli foot patrol entered Gaza southeast of El Maghazi camp under cover of heavy fire. The incursion lasted three hours. Two Palestinian militants were injured during another Israeli army incursion on 19 February. On the same day, a Palestinian was injured along the Gaza-Israeli border fence. On 20 and 23 February, Gazan militants detonated improvised explosive devices near the border with Israel, resulting in armed clashes in both cases, and the injury of two Palestinians on 20 February. Israeli air forces, naval vessels and army troops conducted daily strikes on the Gaza Strip during the reporting period. Militants in Gaza fired rockets and mortars towards Israel daily during the reporting period, targeting both Israeli bases along the border and towns inside Israel.26/2/2009

Israel holding 42 Palestinians in administrative detention for over two years B`Tselem - Press Release - Of the 548 Palestinians Israel is detaining without trial, 42 have been held for over two years, according to figures appearing in B`Tselem’s annual report, published today. Twenty-three have been administratively detained for over two and a half years, including three who have been detained between three and four and a half years, and two over four and a half consecutive years. In fact, the vast majority of administrative detainees (372) have been held without charge or trial for at least two consecutive periods. 5/2/2009
