|IRAQI DEATH TOLL – WIKILEAKS REVEALS TIP OF THE ICEBERG ONLY||Kathleen Barry--[Prof. Barry , Author of books as Female Sexual Slavery, a Biography of Susan B. Anthony, and most recently Unmaking War, Remaking Men, responds to Wikileaks stats on the numbers of Iraqi civilians killed.
The numbers of Palestinian civilians killed are more available than were those of Iraqis thanks to Human Rights organizations and others as B’tselem, Palestinian Red Cressent Society, OCHA,
The reasons that Israeli soldiers kill civilians are similar to those that Barry outlines below for American soldiers. Here again, what Israeli soldiers do is available from testimonies from Courage to Refuse and Breaking the Silence, and more recently from items uploaded on facebook.
The question is what do we do with the information and the statistics? Statistics do not help reduce the numbers. Gathering them and exposing them is an important step, but it unfortunately does not end them.
|The Zionist Organization of America’s Effort to Criminalize Campus Activism through Federal Civil Rights Legislation||Eyal Mazor--Under the leadership of Mort Klein, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) is celebrating its success in its efforts to expand federal anti-bullying guidelines stipulated under the US Civil Rights Act of 1964. So why in the world would Mort Klein and his pro-occupation and pro-settlement ZOA be interested in federal civil rights and anti-bullying policy in the first place? Perhaps a new-found interest in protecting religious practice and reigning in on all instances of discrimination? Of course not. Read on and prepare yourself to be outraged.||31/10/2010|

|Israel Reveals Documents Related to the Gaza Closure Policy Due to Gisha`s Freedom of Information Act Petition||Gisha - After 1.5 years of obstruction, Israel revealed the procedures governing the closure of Gaza and the lists of goods whose entrance was permitted.
The documents reveal a policy of economic strangulation.
The documents show that Israel was guided by considerations of image and public perception, not just security and the rights and needs of Palestinian residents of Gaza.
|Israelis `building 600 new homes in West Bank`||AP - The Independent - "Assessing the extent of post-freeze construction is difficult because Israel`s government has declined to release information and settlement officials generally do not provide detailed data. Peace Now, which is conducting an extensive survey of building activity, has reported that work has begun on at least 600 new homes since restrictions, which Israel imposed in November 2009 for 10 months, were lifted on September 26. A count by the Associated Press found that - as of early last week - work had begun on at least 544 apartments"||25/10/2010|
|Channel 1 Correspondent Confirms Ilan as Shabak Director-Designate. NGO Forces IDF to Release Secret Memo Documenting Gaza Strangulation||Richard Silverstein Tikun Olam--Gishas website notes that when it first sued the state in order to expose this 2009 memo the latter denied it existed. When that didnt work, it conceded the memo existed but that releasing it would endanger national security (now, you have a chance to judge for yourself the probity of this claim). The government has now conceded that it must release them under an FOIA legal proceeding. However, the government continues to refuse to release the current rules governing the siege which are supposedly more lenient than the pre-Marmara rules. ||24/10/2010|

|3 Jews showed this video last night at NYU, challenging Zionism||[forwarded by Abraham (eibie) Weizfeld] PHILIP WEISS--Three years ago a Palestinian friend sauntered down Broadway and said, I have only one goal in life, I want to end Zionism. I was shocked that a person would say something like that, I thought he must be a violent revolutionary. Well a lot has changed, and last night I went to an event at NYU where three Jews sat at the front of the room and said their goal is to end Zionism inside Jewish life and thought. ||24/10/2010|

|Rachel Corrie Trial: The driver testifies Behind A Screen||Craig Corrie spoke out against this dehumanisation of both victim and perpetrator after the hearing yesterday:
“I think the screen is emblematic of one of the big problems we have in this area, which is not being able to recognise the humanity of each other… Palestinians in Gaza never see the Israelis, they just see these machines moving around, and you could hear from the language in court and how the Israelis keep talking about the terrorists, the terrorists, that they don’t see the human beings either. We couldn’t see the human being behind this screen.”||23/10/2010|

|Playing with Water||Pulse - "Water in Israel is probably one of the most blatant faces of apartheid. As reports like the Amnesty International report of 2009, `Troubled Waters` and the B’tselem website coverage of the issue, `The Water Crisis` show us, Israel’s resources are invested in water theft/access denial from the Palestinians. But water in Israel is not just a substance of life, for those who can’t have it, it’s a tradable commodity, for those who’ll never miss it"||18/10/2010|

Plan for 238 new houses in East Jerusalem comes at a time when peace talks are stalled||Ewen MacAskill in Washington--The 238 houses are in Pisgat Ze`ev and Ramot, both in East Jerusalem and both with predominantly Israeli residents. |Israel Reveals Documents related to the Gaza Closure Policy||Gisha -
"After one and a half years in which Israel at first denied their existence and then claimed that revealing them would harm "state security", the State of Israel today released three documents that outline its policy for permitting transfer of goods into the Gaza Strip prior to the May 31 flotilla incident. The documents were released due to a Freedom of Information Act petition submitted by Gisha in the Tel Aviv District Court, in which Gisha demanded transparency regarding the Gaza closure policy. Israel still refuses to release the current documents governing the closure policy as amended after the flotilla incident."
