Please appeal to the Israeli ambassador in your countries, requiring him to act against this new law. Please appeal as well to your own Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking to apply pressure on the Israeli government and prevent this draconian law from being legislated. Thank you! All the best to you! Are we born racist? Smadar Reisfeld--A new Israeli study has some surprising answers. [This study is interesting but appears to have been conducted solely in Israel and mainly with Jewish Israeli children. Where it has stretched out to ‘mixed’ schools the responses were much less group-centered. I wonder if the results of the study would have been different had it been conducted on children who live in a racially heterogeneous society. My children, for instance, had the opportunity when young to live in the United States and attend a very racially mixed school and nursery school for a year. I remember coming one day to pick up our youngest son (who was 4 yrs old) from nursery school and found him with his arm around the shoulders of an African American child his age. My son looked at me with love in his eyes as he said in a voice filled with pride, “This is my friend.” The study does show that even though tendencies are innate education can temper them. This is where most Israeli education sadly fails. And with education ministers as our previous one (Gideon Sa’ar) schools are programmed to intensify racist tendencies. dn]9/6/2013
