Recent action to counter illegal activities and insecurity in the Sinai have included restricting on movement of people through the Rafah Crossing and closing down smuggling tunnels. At the same time, there have been only limited easings of the ongoing restrictions imposed at legitimate crossing points from Israel. Consequently, an already fragile humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has worsened. dn | 29/9/2013 |

Dislocated Communities in East Jerusalem: THE BIR NABALA / TEL AL ‘ADASSA BEDOUIN COMMUNITY | | OCHA - Case Study - The Bir Nabala / Tel al ‘Adassa Bedouin community consists of nine families who have lived in the area between Ramallah and Jerusalem since the late 1950s. It is one of at least 16 Palestinian communities located on the “Jerusalem side” of the Barrier, although the majority of their residents hold West Bank ID cards. In August 2013, Israeli forces demolished all the structures in the community, and, a few days later, the remaining families left to the “West Bank” side of the Barrier, after being instructed to do so by the Israeli authorities. No More War for Israel? The People Against the 800 Pound Gorilla | | JEAN BRICMONT and DIANA JOHNSTONE--The past ten days have seen what could be the start of an historic turning point away from endless war in the Middle East. Public opinion in the United States, in harmony with the majority of people in the world, has clearly rejected U.S. military intervention in Syria.
But for this turn away from war to be complete and lasting, greater awareness is needed of the forces that have been pushing the United States into these wars, and will surely continue to do so until they are clearly and openly rejected.

Banking on West Bank prosperity | | Dalia Hatuqa -
Al Jazeera
"Twenty-years ago, when the Oslo Accords were inked between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel, it was practically unheard of for Palestinians to take out mortgages, let alone personal loans for household appliances or luxury vehicles. Bank regulations were stringent and included, among many other prerequisites, securing several co-signers to ensure the loan was paid off. But today some West Bank cities are overrun with flashy new cars and middle-class Palestinians are up to their ears in personal debt, courtesy of easy-to-receive mortgages and consumer loans made available in recent years." ca | 13/9/2013 |
