Trump’s Mideast envoys moving to next phase | | Uri Savir - Al-Monitor - Is launching peace negotiations currently
possible? Judging by the two parties’ positions on the substance of
permanent status issues, the answer is probably negative. Yet the PLO
official may be right that such a process might take place after all,
given the domestic political problems of Trump, Netanyahu and Abbas.-

For Arab citizens, `Jewish and democratic` means demographic war | | Orly Noy - +972 - While much of the world justly focuses on land theft
in the occupied territories, we must not forget that Israel uses the
pretense of ‘Jewish and democratic’ to actively dispossess its own Arab
citizens.-rh | 23/8/2017 |

Im Tirzu, Israeli movement ‘with fascist elements,’ to meet at Jerusalem center with links to Reform movement | | Yossi Gurvitz - Mondoweiss - As Im Tirzu was in the vanguard of the
assault on human rights NGOs and academic freedom in Israel, it is
surprising and disheartening news to learn its conference will be
hosted at a conference center owned by the World Union for Progressive
Judaism (WUPJ), which is dedicated to strengthening Reform Jewish
life. is stranger still when you examine the list of speakers: it
includes Dr. Mordechai Keidar, an orientalist who became notorious
when suggesting raping the sisters or mothers of Palestinian
terrorists as a terrorism counter-measure (Hebrew). The conference
will also host the singer Ariel Zilber, noted for his support of Meir
Kahane (his greatest hit in the last decade being “Kahane was right”)
and of Elor Azariya, the soldier recently convicted of killing a
defenseless Palestinian attacker.-rh | 23/8/2017 |

With friends like Putin and Trump, Israel doesn`t need enemies | | Shimon Shiffer - Ynetnews - Netanyahu is not expected to get help
from his friend Trump—the US under his presidency has no presence in
the civil war in Syria, nor does it show any particular interest in
aiding its allies. While the Americans did deliver a blow to Syrian
regime targets after Assad used chemical weapons, all Trump is really
doing is continuing his predecessor Obama`s policy: Limited
involvement in conflict zones. And so for all the red lines Israel has
set, it stands alone in defending them. During the fighting in Syria,
Israel made it clear any Iranian attempt to transfer missiles and
other weapons to Hezbollah would be met with a harsh response.
Outgoing Air Force commander Amir Eshel even revealed IAF fighter jets
carried out over a hundred airstrikes, destroying weapons convoys en
route to Lebanon.-rh

Can Israel transfer its Palestinian population? | | Patrick Strickland - Aljazeera - Yousef Jabareen, a legislator in
Israel`s Knesset, described both the forced population transfer and
the annexation of settlements - considered illegal under international
law - as "war crimes". "Arab citizens of Israel were not granted
citizenship by grace, but by the fact that they live in their
historical homeland," he told Al Jazeera.-rh | 9/8/2017 |

The war on Israeli BDS supporters | | Amnon Portugaly - +972 - These days Gilad Erdan, Israel’s minister of
public security and strategic affairs, is promoting a new law that
would exclude his ministry from governmental oversight. This is a step
meant to help fight the BDS movement, while also granting legitimacy
to gathering intelligence on Israeli citizens who are involved in the
movement to boycott Israel.-rh | 9/8/2017 |

“Fuck it, wipe out Gaza,” says spokesman for new EU campaign | | Ali Abunimah and Dena Shunra -
Electronic Intifada
"Avishai Ivri appears in a video the EU embassy in Tel Aviv posted
on its Facebook page last month.“The European Union. You think it’s
anti-Israel, right?” Ivri begins. “Let me surprise you.” Ivri then
rattles off trade and tourism statistics meant to convince Israeli
viewers of just how much the European Union benefits Israel. He also
boasts that the EU is a customer for Israel’s weapons industry,
particularly drones." ca

A cross sectional study of the relationship between the exposure of pregnant women to military attacks in 2014 in Gaza and the load of heavy metal contaminants in the hair of mothers and newborns | | BMJ Journals -
"Objective Metal contamination of humans in war areas has rarely
been investigated. Weaponry’s heavy metals become environmentally
stable war remnants and accumulate in living things. They also pose
health risks in terms of prenatal intake, with potential long term
risks for reproductive and children’s health. We studied the
contribution of military attacks to the load of 23 metals in the
hair of Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip, who were pregnant at
the time of the military attacks in 2014, and their newborns. We
compared the metal load in the mothers with values for adult hair
from outside the war area (RHS) as the reference. We investigated
heavy metals trans-passing in utero, and assessed if the heavy metal
intake could derive from sources unrelated to the war." ca | 4/8/2017 |

Are Israelis indifferent to corruption around Netanyahu? | | Akiva Eldar - Al-Monitor - Netanyahu, for his part, succeeded in
making corruption much more sophisticated than ever before, all while
undermining the pillars of democracy. But given the heavy "background
noise" emanating from police investigations against him to every
Israeli household, the guardians of democracy and the judicial system
may just end Netanyahu’s rule before he destroys them.-rh

Sponge rounds, rubber bullets, and tear gas — how Israel’s non-lethal munitions can kill | | Sheren Khalel - Mondoweiss - It was the middle of a cold October night
in 2015 when an Israeli army jeep came driving through Aida refugee
camp blaring a message through its loudspeaker “People of Aida refugee
camp, we are the occupation forces,” the message began in Arabic. “If
you throw stones, we will hit you with gas until you all die. The
children, the youth, the old people – you will all die. We won’t leave
any of you alive … Go home or we will gas you until you die. Your
families, your children, everyone – we will kill you.”-rh | 16/8/2017 |
