Statement on the sentencing of Ahed Tamimi | | Press release - GOV.UK - Minister for the Middle East, Alistair Burt MP said: **“The conviction and sentencing of Ahed Tamimi is emblematic of how the unresolved conflict is blighting the lives of a new generation, who should be growing up together in peace, but continue to be divided.
**“The treatment of Palestinian children in Israeli military detention remains a human rights priority for the UK. We will continue to call upon Israel to improve its practices in line with international law and obligations.
**“We have offered to help the Israeli authorities through expert-to-expert talks with UK officials. The offer still stands and we hope Israel will take us up on it. While we recognise that Israel has made some improvements, it needs to do much more to safeguard vulnerable people in its care.”

UN Human Rights Council Adopts Four Pro-Palestinian Resolutions | | IMEMC News & Agencies -
"The majority of the member countries voted in favor of the
following four resolutions:
1.Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories,
including East Jerusalem, are illegal.
2.The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
3.The situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian
territories, including East Jerusalem.
4.Ensuring accountability and justice for all violations of
international law in the OPT, including East Jerusalem.
According to WAFA, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad
al-Malki praised the vote and thanked the countries that voted in
favor of the four resolutions. He called on the countries of the
world to take not only statements but tangible steps, in order to
protect the people of Palestine and achieve the two-state solution."

Americans have a constitutional right to boycott Israel | | Josh Ruebner - Aljazeera - It should be a no-brainer that Americans
can boycott whomever or whatever they choose without risking
governmental punishment. After all, the Supreme Court ruled that
states have no "right to prohibit peaceful political activity" such as
a boycott, which is an "expression on public issues" that "has always
rested on the highest rung of the hierarchy of First Amendment
values". Indeed, the recent blossoming of the #BoycottNRA movement
provides renewed proof of the centrality of boycott movements in
effecting social change in the United States.-rh | 21/3/2018 |

Detainees minister warns of deteriorating health of veteran prisoners | | WAFA - Minister of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Issa Qaraqe,
warned on Saturday about the deteriorating health and physiological
being of veteran Palestinian political detainees who spent more than
20 years in Israeli jails. Speaking during an event for the prisoners’
families in Ramallah city in the West Bank, Qaraqe said most of these
prisoners have been suffering various diseases as a result of their
prolonged detention and the absence of any prospects for their
release.-rh | 21/3/2018 |

World Bank: Gaza economy cannot survive without being connected to outside world | | WAFA - Gaza has seen conditions steadily deteriorate over the last
two decades, leading to collapsing of the economy and basic social
services, the World Bank said in a report published on Thursday. While
additional cash inflows are urgently needed to bring relief to the
difficult living conditions, a lasting recovery depends on a concerted
strategy to revive the Gaza economy through access to external markets
and expansion of commercial activities.-rh | 21/3/2018 |

Al Jazeera Did a Hard-hitting Investigation into US and Israeli Lobbying – So Why Won`t They Air It? | | Robert Fisk - Information Clearing House - I’m talking about a
documentary called The Lobby, directed by one of Al Jazeera’s top
journalists, Clayton Swisher, the man whose exclusive (and book) on
the “Palestine Papers” blew open the secret and scandalous American-
led negotiations between Israelis and the Palestinian authority
between 2000 and 2010. But after months of postponement, The Lobby,
which secretly filmed pro-Israeli US activists and Israeli government
officials and was completed last autumn, is still no nearer to being
shown – and Swisher himself has taken a paid leave of absence. He even
chose to explain his frustration in an article for the progressive
American Jewish magazine Forward, which has always maintained a
liberal and often very critical view of Israel.-rh | 21/3/2018 |

Three minutes over Syria: How Israel destroyed Assad’s nuclear reactor | | YOSSI MELMAN and DAN RAVIV - The Times of Israel - After more than a
decade of stubborn silence, Israel has finally acknowledged that its
Air Force destroyed the Syrian nuclear reactor, on the night between
September 5 and 6, 2007. Built by North Korea, the reactor was
designed to produce plutonium as fissile material for nuclear bombs.
This is the inside story of the attack itself, and the intelligence
gathering process — successes and failures — that facilitated it, as
disclosed by the central players themselves.-rh | 21/3/2018 |

Blessed are the Mapmakers | | Ken Shulman -
The New Yorker
"The partners at SAYA told me that they weren’t selling structures;
their product is an invitation for policy planners to think more
like architects, and architects to think a little more like policy
planners. There are probably more roadblocks than road before them—
reciprocal fear, hatred, atrophy at home, and, in some other
countries, a stigma and doubts about Israel and Israelis (and
Israeli urban planners), even those who are committed to peace.
Still, they want to push forward. “We have a professional
responsibility here,” says Bar-Sinai. “An obligation to devote our
skills to resolving these problems. We can’t close our eyes on them
because they’re difficult.” Or, maybe, because she knows that while
peacemakers are blessed, they might be doubly blessed if just a few
more of them were mapmakers." ca | 16/3/2018 |

under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders without charges or
trial, continued their boycott of Israeli military courts for the 28th

military courts on February 15th and are demanding Israel to end the
illegal policies of holding them indefinitely, without charges or

Criminal Court.-rh | 14/3/2018 |

An intimate portrait of Palestine: Ramzy Baroud’s ‘The Last Earth: A People’s Story of Palestine’ | | Vacy Vlazna - Mondoweiss - With alchemical brilliance, he has, in the
crucible of his art, purified hours of recorded interviews on love
stories, generations of births, childhoods, disappearances, adversity,
torment, deaths into the essence of Love and Truth and the magic is –
we too are purified and illumined by a powerful knowing that can never

Who profits from keeping Gaza on the brink of humanitarian catastrophe? | | Shir Hever - +972 - As long as Gaza remains on the brink of collapse,
international donors keep the flow of humanitarian aid money going. If
the crisis were ended and the siege lifted, it is safe to assume that
that the international donors would change the type of aid they
provide and return to focus on the development of the Gazan economy
(as they did from 1994—2000, until the outbreak of the Second
Intifada). This type of aid would likely compete with certain branches
of Israeli companies and therefore threaten the Israeli economy.
Keeping Gaza on the verge of collapse keeps international humanitarian
aid money flowing exactly to where it benefits Israeli interests.-rh | 7/3/2018 |

Newsletter - February 2018 | | Military Court Watch - According to the Israeli Prison Service (IPS),
as of 31 December 2017 there were 5,976 Palestinians (West Bank, East
Jerusalem, Gaza) held as “security prisoners” in Israeli detention
facilities including 352 children (12-17 years). In the case of
children there was a 12 percent increase in the number compared with
the previous month but an annual decrease of 17 percent compared with
2016. These figures include 2 children held in administrative
detention. According to the IPS, 52 percent of child detainees were
transferred and/or detained inside Israel in violation of Article 76
of the Fourth Geneva Convention during the month.-rh | 7/3/2018 |

Universities are demanding professors disavow BDS before being allowed to speak on campus | | Nada Elia - Mondoweiss - So far, every case of anti-BDS legislation
has been successfully challenged. But for now, we must make it crystal
clear to our representatives that BDS should not be denounced, let
alone criminalized. With the Israeli lobby pushing hard to pass the
Israel Anti-Boycott law, now is the time to challenge this twenty-
first century McCarthyisim, in the form of anti-BDS legislation, and
the imposition of a political litmus test on campuses across the
country. And now is the time to remind our legislators that the right
to boycott is constitutionally protected, and that we must not
prioritize a foreign nation seeking to defend its apartheid system,
and legitimize its illegal settlements, over the legal rights of US
citizens enacting their solidarity with an oppressed people.-rh | 7/3/2018 |

Ahed’s Generation: Why the Youth in Palestine Must Break Free from Dual Oppression | | RAMZY BAROUD - Counterpunch - While Palestinian officials continue to
pay lip service to Ahed Tamimi and thousands of young Palestinians who
continue to endure imprisonment and ill treatment by Israel, in truth,
Ahed epitomizes the antithesis of everything that the Palestinian
leadership in Ramallah stands for. She is strong, morally-driven and
defiant; the PA is subservient, morally bankrupt and quisling.
Palestinian youth already understand this, and it is mostly up to them
to free themselves from the confines of military occupation and
corruption. | 7/3/2018 |
