The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil,    but because of the people who don't do anything about it

The Smallest Settlement Jonathan Cook - Anti-War - ""The settlers have submitted a plan to the Jerusalem municipality seeking the demolition of Sheikh Jarrah`s Palestinian homes to make way for the building of 200 apartments for settlers."" 30/7/2008

`If I Forget Thee, Umm Touba…` Uri Avnery - Gush Shalom - In the atmosphere of suspicion and fear that pervades Jerusalem now, every road accident involving an Arab becomes an attack, and every Arab driver involved in an accident will in all probability be executed on the spot, without a trial. (It should be remembered that the first intifada broke out because of a road accident, in which a Jewish driver ran over some Arabs.)26/7/2008
The Holy City in Human Dimensions : The Partition of Jerusalem and the Right to Social SecurityYehezkel Lein - Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights - In the failed final-status negotiations that Israel and the Palestinian Authority held in 2000, the sides reached agreement on the main parameters of a solution on the question of Jerusalem. However, both sides ignored the fact that according to these parameters, East Jerusalem Palestinians would be denied almost completely their social security entitlements under the Israeli social security system. This article argues that, regardless of what will be agreed in any future agreement, according to international human rights law, Israel would continue to bear at least some responsibility for ensuring the right to social security of Palestinian Jerusalemites, even though they live outside its territory. Moreover, a sweeping denial of social security benefits would also be deemed a violation of the right of property under Israeli constitutional law10/7/2008

And some comments of the Editor (VB), in connection with the recent terrorist act in Jerusalem.5/7/2008
`It`s like living at the end of the world`Toni O`Loughlin - The Guardian - "Whenever I see the wall, I can`t control this ugly feeling inside me. It`s hatred and anger," says Sufian."12/7/2008
The Palestinian Bar-MitzvahBassam Aramin - karmalised.com - "At last Avichai gave his permission to let Rafet go to the bathroom on the condition that Saleh would not relieve himself. Saleh did not know this protector of the security of the State of Israel was following them on their base errand until he was squatting in the middle of his “terrorist operation,” trying to relieve himself, and Avichai began using his hands and feet to hit him across the face and head as a lesson to others as to what happens when you fail to carry out a military order. Let me remind you, Saleh and Rafet are legal residents of the State of Israel."19/7/2008
Two more days for Al-Kurd family from Sheikh Jarrah, JerusalemMarlene Goetz - AIC - In 2006, Israeli settlers began to harass the family, wanting to take over the house the al-Kurds had built through hard work over so many years. 18/7/2008
Jerusalem Municipality allows criminals to turn the Dahiyat a-Salam neighborhood into a garbage dumpB`Tselem - Dahiyat a-Salam is one of East Jerusalem’s most neglected areas. The streets in the neighborhood, which lies in the northern part of East Jerusalem, are in complete disrepair and are strewn with piles of refuse, and the Municipality provides almost no services to its residents. This has enabled criminals to turn the neighborhood into a pirate garbage dump. 17/7/2008
Our Old City, the Holy Land Maiko Sato - MIFTAH - Late Friday night, July 11, shocking news broke the silence of the Old City of Jerusalem. Two Israeli police officers were shot and seriously injured near Lions Gate. All the gates were blocked for the next few hours and people outside the wall were thrown into a frenzy, not knowing what had happened inside. The incident was completely out of the ordinary because even if the world outside of the wall is in chaos, the Old City has always kept its serene atmosphere and has always provided a meditative and somewhat relaxing escape for visitors. 17/7/2008
