Statement of Solidarity: Israeli human rights and civil society organizations condemn attacks against Al-HaqB`Tselem - The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories " As Israeli organizations, we express our solidarity with our Palestinian counterparts. Al-Haq has indeed been faced with increasing pressure, which started with anonymous emails to staff and donors, citing non-existent fraud investigations, continued with daily calls from blocked numbers meant to intimidate the staff, and culminated in death threats to a staff member and to its General Director, Shawan Jabarin. These recent threats were directly connected to Al-Haq`s ongoing work before the International Criminal Court in The Hague." ca18/3/2016

Former Israeli Defense Officials Back Plan to Separate Palestinian Villages From Jerusalem Nir Hasson - Haaretz "The plan will correct two colossal historic mistakes Israel has made, he said. The first is the annexation of numerous Palestinian villages to Jerusalem immediately after the Six-Day War. The second is the separation fence that Ariel Sharon decided on, which left almost all of Jerusalem’s municipal area on the Israeli side of the wall.Under Ramon’s plan, a wall would cut off several neighborhoods, consisting of some 200,000 Palestinians, from Jerusalem. These neighborhoods’ residents would be denied resident status in Israel." ca 11/3/2016

New Proposal to Divide Jerusalem Unites People Against ItIsabel Kershenmarch - The New York Times - The new plan is supported by the Israeli Labor party but opposed on both sides the political spectrum. The Right is against it because of being against any "division of Jerusalem". The Left - because it is presented in nationalist tones of "Saving Jewish Jerusalem" and presents Arab Jerusalemites as "a demographic threat". More importantly, because it would fence off Palestinian villages annexed in 1967 but retain Israeli rule in urban Palestinian neighborhoods and in the sensitive Old City. For the same reasons, Palestinians reject it out of hand. ak 8/3/2016

Restrictions on movement in Bab al-Majles in Jerusalem’s Old City place neighborhood in chokeholdB`Tselem - “The future is uncertain, but it’s pretty clear that the checkpoints are here to stay. During the morning there’s an almost complete closure here, until the settlers finish their visit to al-Aqsa, and then the police sometimes open the checkpoint for an hour and a half to let people attend noon prayers. Then they close again for two hours, and then open again. Sometimes they do random searches, and sometimes thorough inspections. If this goes on even for a few more months, all the shops on the street will shut down” [ry] 1/3/2016
