Israeli authorities seal main road in occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood | | Ma`an - Israel’s response to alleged attacks -- both large and small -- such as punitive home demolitions, the sealing of entire villages, mass detention campaigns, and withholding the bodies of Palestinians slain while committing attacks, has been condemned by rights groups, who have said the measures amount to “collective punishment” and represent a clear violation of international law. How Israel Privatized Its Occupation of Palestine | | Antony Loewenstein&Matt Kennard -
The Nation
"There’s a long history of humiliation inflicted on Palestinians at
checkpoints. The Israeli human-rights group B’Tselem has released
countless reports over the years documenting the abuse. The Israeli
women’s organization Machsom Watch has been monitoring the
checkpoints since 2001 and advocating on behalf of Palestinians
whose work-permit applications are unfairly rejected...Without
massive international pressure, it’s impossible to see how the
outsourced occupation won’t become a permanent nightmare. " ca

Palestine’s Sweeter Fruit | | IMEMC -
"Palestine’s most famous crop is the olive, but not to be overlooked
are its grapes. Best known for grape production is the Hebron area
of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The al-Natsheh family vineyard in
Hebron city was first planted in the 1950s, two decades after Daoud
Salam al-Natsheh bought the 40 dunams of land (a dunam is the
equivalent of 1,000 square meters) in 1932 for 250 Palestine pounds,
the currency during the British Mandate...Abd al-Aziz said that the
settlers in Kiryat Arba have never damaged the vineyard or attacked
harvesters but he worried that Israel will eventually colonize the
family’s land." ca

construction plans for Palestinians living in the West Bank`s Area C
– the largest swathe of the occupied territory where all the Jewish
settlements are located and where the Palestinian Authority lacks
any control...Though the plan is relatively modest in scope, Israel
has not undertaken such a move for years." ca | 28/10/2016 |

the deplorable work conditions for child laborers in Gaza. From
scouring trash pits for re-sellable materials to working long shifts
on fishing boats for a few shekels, child labor in Gaza has doubled
over the past five years as families struggle to survive." ca | 28/10/2016 |

Occupation through the eyes of a child: the way to school | | International Solidarity Movement - Imagine being an eight-year old boy, walking to school, and as you come close, close to the roadblock you have to pass every day, army jeeps are everywhere, blocking the roadblock and the gate. You have to squeeze past the jeeps on one side, or squeeze between the two, just to pass the roadblock, just one of the obstacles installed by Israeli forces, as an everyday reminder that you’re the occupied, the ‘less human’ the people the occupying army is trying so hard to displace. Your only fault: being born Palestinian.-rh | 27/10/2016 |

The social media: a new venue for censorship and persecution | | IMEMC/MADA - The social media was originally viewed as a wide and
efficient window for empowering journalists in particular and
Palestinian citizens in general, to express their opinions freely.
However, in the past year the social media increasingly assumes an
opposite role - systematic surveillance and observation leading to
prosecution and oppression relating to user opinions. There is
Israeli pressure on Facebook — through a recent partnership
agreement to delete comments, photos and even block personal and
informative pages, under the pretext of "incitement". Not only the
Israeli authorities, but also different Palestinian apparatuses take
action against people because of what they posted in the social
media. [ak] | 25/10/2016 |

Palestinian Universities on the Frontline | | Sam Bahour - ePalestine.com - Palestinian universities are fighting an uphill battle on two fronts, one being the Israeli military occupation, and more recently, the other being the Palestinian government. Although each poses two very different sets of challenges, one outcome is clear. If immediate and decisive intervention is not forthcoming, the structural damage that will set back entire generations of Palestinian students will haunt Palestine’s developmental capabilities for many years to come. That is, if the damage has not already been inflicted.-rh

No coverage, no accountability – Palestinian child’s brutal death at hands of Israeli soldiers | | Ben White - Middle East Monitor - The shocking killing of Abdel-Rahman highlights both the lack of Western media coverage when it comes to the Palestinian victims of Israeli forces’ violence, and the parallel absence of accountability for grave violations of international law and human rights by the Israeli army and its political leaders. No coverage and no accountability means that the killing and maiming of Palestinians – including children – will only continue.-rh

Israel`s surefire way of keeping its citizens in the dark | | Shuki Tausig - +972 - Once upon a time we used to have the IDF Censor. Well, we still do, but they no longer act like tyrants. The court system — the same one that rushes to issue scandalous gag orders — has restrained the court system and forced it into leniency. If in the past the censor could redact to its heart’s content, the high-profile case Schnitzer v. Chief Military Censor, which reached the High Court in 1989, compelled the military to explicitly state that there is a “near certainty that the publication will cause substantial and grave harm to security.”-rh | 12/10/2016 |

The slow creep of ethnic cleansing – extended closed military zone in Hebron | | International Solidarity Movement - The closed military zone (CMZ)
has been extended, now covering the whole Tel Rumeida neighborhood.
At the newly staffed checkpoints, Palestinian residents are often
kept waiting by Israeli forces for hours. In one recent case,
Israeli forces forced a whole group of Palestinians, including small
children to wait for over two hours before they could reach their
homes – whereupon the soldiers suddenly just walked away from the
checkpoint, allowing for Palestinians to pass. The only plausible
reason for such arbitrary behavior is to make the Palestinians go
away, leaving Tel Rumeida in sole possession of a particularly
fanatic group of settlers. [ak] | 4/10/2016 |

Continuing crisis over Palestinian local elections | | Ma`an - First, the Palestinian Supreme Court in Ramallah called off
the Palestinian local elections. Then it decided to hold them on the
West Bank, but not in the Gaza Strip. After this aroused great

which Palestinians seem unable to overcome. [ak] | 4/10/2016 |
