How Israel Tries to Get a Palestinian Family to Quit Their Home Amira Hass - Haaretz - Let me tell you what I think happened here. The Jabari family and its 25 dunams (five acres) of land, where the family has been living since long before the Gush Emunim settlement movement was founded, are obstructing Kiryat Arba’s expansion aspirations. Someone is using Israel’s sons and daughters in compulsory military service to harass the family until they leave. [bz]26/9/2017

Israel’s expulsion of Jerusalem lawmakers overturned for nowAli Abunimah - Electronic Intifada "Human rights groups said that a ruling this week by Israel’s high court confirms that the state cannot revoke the residency of Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem on the vague grounds of “breach of loyalty.” After a 10-year legal battle, the high court decided that Israel’s interior minister did not have the authority to expel four Palestinian lawmakers from the city.Legal advocacy group Adalah and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel said that the court’s decision to accept the lawmakers’ appeal affirms that the expulsion was done “in violation of the rule of law while gravely harming their constitutional rights.” ca 16/9/2017

Israeli Soldiers abduct four Palestinians during a wedding IMEMC - Israeli soldiers arriving at Palestinian towns and villages and detaining people (abducting, as Palestinians consider it) is routine repeated every day (especially every night) all over the West Bank. The only special feature of what happened at al-‘Ezariyya, southeast of East Jerusalem, is that the detentions happened during a wedding ceremony. Soldiers installed a roadblock, stopped the guests heading to the wedding, and took four of them off to detention. As usual, no explanation was given of what they were suspected of. Fortunately, the newly-weds themselves were allowed to pass the roadblock and proceed with the ceremony. [ak]19/9/2017

‘I will shoot you in front of your mother ‘– Israeli forces follow through on threat to Palestinian youth Yumna Patel - Mondoweiss - In late July, the 22-year old Raed al- Salhi of Deheisha refugee camp got a phone call from the Isralei army: "We will shoot you in front of your mother”. So related Khaled, Raed`s brother. Two weeks later, the threat was carried out. On the night of August 9, 2017, Israeli soldiers raided the camp, and the 22-year old Raed was riddled with bullets just outside his family home, as his mother sat in the living room just feet away. Severely wounded, he died in hospital weeks later without regaining consciousness. It is not clear why the Israeli occupation authorities wanted him dead. The threatening phone call had been made by an Israeli officer calling himself "Captain Nidal" - who apparently also saw to its implementation. Israel And The Palestinian Authority Finally Agree — About Jailing Peace Activist Issa Amro Peter Beinart - Forward "Nothing illustrates that better than the case of Issa Amro. Amro, an internationally acclaimed nonviolent activist in Hebron who has written for the Forward, has been arrested by Israel numerous times. He is currently awaiting trial before an Israeli military court on charges that Amnesty International calls “baseless and politically motivated.” But on Sunday, Amro was detained not by Israeli troops but by Palestinian ones. The sequence of events that led to his detention says a lot about the way Israel and the PA work together to deny Palestinians basic rights." ca 8/9/2017

One magical night in YaffaAnonymous - Mondoweiss "As we set out, around 4:30 p.m. or so, the sunlight was that of an early evening in late July, and the music playing was Bob Marley. Ghassan was at the wheel. Due to his family’s long-maintained connection to a residence in Jerusalem, he had a yellow license plate on his car, which gave him much more freedom of movement than the other plate Palestinians were likely to have...Meanwhile, those for whom this apartheid had been built calmly strolled along the beach, seeing nothing out of the ordinary, pushing their children in strollers and laughing. The appointment of an Israeli ministerial committee that operates in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), according to Israeli domestic law, amounts to a de facto annexation of West Bank land to Israel. The committee, established this past March 2017 by the Interior Ministry`s director general, is mandated with evaluating the municipal status and alternations to jurisdictional boundaries of local authorities in Israel. However, this mandate also includes Israeli settlements in the OPT." ca 1/9/2017
