Sowing steadfastness, harvesting hope | | Claire Thomas -
Electronic Intifada
“When my grandfather bought the land in 1916 he registered it, so we
got papers from the Ottomans and we kept re-registering the land
with the British, then the Jordanians, and finally the Israelis,”
explained Daher’s brother, Daoud...The family has transformed their
farm into what they call the Tent of Nations — a center for peace-
building and nonviolent resistance.
“We wanted to open the farm for people to come and see. This is the
best way of education. Come, see, go and tell. We are asking people
to go and tell not only what they have heard but what they have
seen,” Daoud explained." ca

Will new agreement lead to increase in Palestinian exports? | | Ahmad Melhem -
Al-Monitor
"The Palestinian Ministry of Economy announced May 6 that it reached
an agreement with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the export of
Palestinian products to Jordan in small 20-foot containers via the
King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge... The agreement, which was sponsored
by international parties such as the Quartet, came as part of the
implementation of the Palestinian five-year National Export
Strategy, developed under the supervision of the International Trade
Center (ITC) and funded by the European Union. The strategy was
launched by the government on June 1, 2015, in the presence of ITC
Executive Director Arancha Gonzalez and EU representative John Gatt-
Rutter, and is expected to lead to an overall growth in exports over
the next five years by 67%, with an annual growth rate of 13%." ca

The last window closes - Jordan refuses passage to Gazans | | AP/Times of Israel - With the Rafah Crossing closed for all but a
few days in the years, Gazans seeking to travel abroad thought they
had found an alternative way of getting to the outside world -
travelling to Jordan and taking a plane from Amman. It is far from
easy to get an Israeli permit to go from Gaza via Israel to the West
Bank and thence to Jordan, but some have managed it. However, in
recent months the Jordanian authorities have increasingly denied
entry to Gazan Palestinians, thus foiling the last hope of Gazans
who hoped to meet loved ones in Europe or attend university abroad.
The reasons for the Jordanian changed policy have not been stated
officilally. However, on various past occasions Jordan expressed
great apprehension at the possibility that Israel would drive great
masses of Palestinians into their territory, and such apprehension
habitually lead to restrictions on the entry of Palestinians into
the Hashemite Kingdom. ak | 17/5/2016 |

Gaza’s grandparents endure one trauma after another | | Anne Paq--Rizka Abu Rujeila, 70 years old, holds her grandson outside the hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, on 24 July. The boy was injured during an attack on the village of Khuzaa. Most residents fled following Israel’s ground invasion and some were attacked as they attempted to leave the village. Khuzaa was cut off for days from the rest of Gaza; Israeli soldiers prevented access to medical workers and journalists. Some residents sought refuge at the hospital, which was overwhelmed by the number of dead and injured. dn | 8/5/2016 |

The incremental annexation of Palestine | | Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man -
+972 -
"When that happens, when it becomes indisputable that Israel has no
intention of either ceding control of Palestine or giving equal
rights and citizenship to the millions of Palestinians who live
there, there will only be one way of describing the regime ruling
over the entire land from the river to the sea — apartheid." - id | 6/5/2016 |

"The wanton coverage the killing got in the Israeli media made it
clear instantly that something wasn’t quite right – beyond the
ongoing injustice of the occupation.Following increasing pressure
from MKs Zehava Galon (Meretz) and Dov Khenin and Ahmad Tibi (Joint
List), as well as Local Call and Haaretz newspaper, the Ministry of
Public Security was forced to admit that they were killed by
outsourced security guards, employees of the security services
company Civil Intelligence." ca | 4/5/2016 |

Israeli Justice Ministry drops probe after report that contractor behind Qalandiya killings | | Ma`an News Agency - “The Israeli Justice Ministry released a report on Sunday,
which revealed that Maram Salih Hassan Abu Ismail, 23, and her brother
Ibrahim, 16, had been shot and killed by a privately contracted security guard,
and not a police officer as had previously been thought, Israeli Channel 10
reported, noting that the police officer only fired warning shots into the air. As a
result, newspaper Haaretz wrote, the Justice Ministry’s police investigation unit
won’t be opening a probe into the killings. It remains unclear if and by whom a
further probe will be conducted” [ry] | 2/5/2016 |
