The Nakba did not start or end in 1948 | | Al-Jazeera -
"The more than three million Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem face home demolitions, arbitrary arrests, and displacement as Israel expands the 100-plus Jewish-only colonies and steals Palestinian land to do so. Palestinian movement is restricted by military checkpoints and the Separation Wall that has obstructed their ability to travel freely." - id

Dangerous escape from Gaza’s despair | | Hamza Abu Eltarabesh - EI - "No airport, no seaport, and with Gaza’s southern
border crossing closed by Egypt since October 2014 and opened with only rare
exception, young people in the territory have few alternatives to the dismal
situation" [ry] | 22/5/2017 |

28-year-old Gaza fisherman killed by Israeli Navy | | Press TV - The 28-year-old fisherman Mohammed Majed Bakr was
critically wounded when the Israeli Navy opened fire on a fishing
boat off the Gaza shore. He was taken to an Israeli hospital where
he died of his wounds. The three other members of the boat crew, as
well as two fishermen from another boat, were detained, and both
boats impounded. The Israeli Navy is regularly harassing Gazan
fishermen, accusing them of violating the Israeli-imposed limit of
three nautical miles from the Gazan shore (inside which fishing is
poor). Last year, 135 fishermen were arrested, 26 were wounded by
direct Israeli gunfire and 43 boats were impounded. The limit was
supposed to be extended to six nautical miles in the 2014 ceasefire
- but in practice Israeli Navy gunboats continue enforcing the old
limit. [ak]

Israeli forces fire at Gaza fishermen, spray pesticides on Palestinian crops | | Ma`an - Fishermen said that Israeli forces shot at Palestinian fishing boats in two separate incidents off the northern coast of Gaza on Tuesday morning.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that they were looking into the reports.
Meanwhile, Gaza farmers told Ma’an that Israeli drones sprayed pesticides on Palestinian crops along the border with Israel in central and southern Gaza. The pesticides damage crops in the area, which is Gaza`s main agricultural region. The army spokesperson also said she would look into the case. [bz] | 9/5/2017 |

A procedure so special it applies to no one | | Gisha - Among the many, complicated and vague protocols and procedures that govern (and enable) Israel’s control over millions of Palestinians, there is one that ostensibly allows Gaza residents to change their official address to the West Bank, a would-be crack in the tight closure over the Gaza Strip. But this tiny crack is, in fact, fiction. [bz] | 9/5/2017 |

The `silent` war on Gaza`s hospitals | | Samer Badawi - +971 - The director of a hospital destroyed during ‘Protective
Edge’ has managed to rebuild part of the facility. Now he has about a month’s
worth of fuel left to keep its back-up generators running. Without them, the
hospital faces another complete shutdown [ry] | 8/5/2017 |

Israel resumes construction of illegal separation wall near al-Walaja | | Ma’an News Agency - “Israeli newspaper Haaretz corroborated the information,
adding that construction of the illegal separation wall -- also known as the
annexation or apartheid wall -- had been frozen in the al-Walaja area three years
ago following legal battles and protests denouncing the move as causing huge
damages to the landscape and archaeological heritage in the area” [ry] | 1/5/2017 |

Life Behind Israel’s Checkpoints | | RAJA SHEHADEH - The New York Times - After living for half a century under occupation, I can no longer endure the anxiety of what might appear on the road, whether it is angry drivers bottlenecked at the hundreds of barriers scattered through the West Bank or the pathetic boys who throw themselves at your car pretending to clean the windshield, asking for money. The plight of these boys invariably makes me hate myself, forcing me to confront the extent to which my society has failed. Then, of course, there is the indignity of having to wait on the whim of an Israeli teenage soldier to motion me to pass.-rh | 24/5/2017 |
