|Orphaned ||Yoav Peck - Peace NGO Forum - Once again, on Saturday evening I
joined “Speaking in the Square” in downtown Jerusalem. New activists
joined us, the horror in Paris bringing an oppressive pall to the
conversations, as furious right-wingers descended on us, screaming
and shoving, coming right to the edge of violence, while our
activists responded to fury with listening, quietly speaking our
truth, facing down the fear and standing firm. [ak]
|Palestinian campus: `A wall of fear has come down`||Ylenia Gostoli - Al Jazeera - Debris and broken glass were strewn across the Al-Quds University campus in Abu Dis, evidence of one of many recent incursions by Israeli forces since October.
Nearby, a group of students carrying Palestinian flags marched off towards Israel`s separation wall.
A few wrapped their faces in keffiyehs and took turns hitting the wall with a sledgehammer.
This has become a weekly ritual. So far, the students have managed to carve a deep hole in the concrete.
Another student scaled the wall and planted a Palestinian flag at the top. Local schoolchildren joined in, throwing stones over the wall. It was not long before the Israeli army dispersed them with tear gas.

|A Palestinian Call For ‘Unarmed Warfare’||Jonathan Cook - Countercurrents - One of the architects of the first intifada’s non-violent resistance, Mubarak Awad, recently reminded Palestinians that it is no soft option. “It’s about using nonviolence militantly, like a kind of unarmed warfare,” he told an interviewer. He suggests instead refusing to carry Israeli-issued IDs, defying curfews, blocking roads, planting trees on sites intended for settlement, tearing down fences, staging sit-ins and and inviting mass arrests to fill to breaking point Israel’s jails. Such actions require mass participation, mobilising women, children and the elderly – the very groups likely to be excluded by armed struggle.-rh
