|Settler violence September-October||Shazia Arshad - Middle East Monitor - Illegal settlements continue to be built across the West Bank and bring with them even more problems, including increasing incidents of settler violence. The illegal settlers colonising the West Bank attack Palestinian people, land, schools, mosques and agriculture. A problem that has existed for some time is worsening, and the Israeli military generally turns a blind eye.

|Profitable Occupation||Susan Lourenco - Machsomwatch - Only lately have the media begun to call attention to the settlements as "the front line" of the Occupation. It`s a complex system – profitable too – what with all the barriers, barbed wire and checkpoints built, rebuilt and taken down, invariably at or below settlements; segregated roads, constructed and constantly reasphalted, tunnels shaped under them for those who should never be allowed above ground, the Separation Barrier and/or Wall punching its way through Palestinian fields and olive groves. But at no time of year is the presence of settlements and settlers, their numbers exponentially multiplied since the Oslo agreement, so much in evidence as during the olive harvest when recurrent and systematic violence is heightened in the context of the olive harvest, and intimidation and denial of access become the purview of settlers as well as the army.||21/10/2010|

|Israeli police recruiting from settlements for first time ||Jonathan Cook - The Electronic Intifada - As US-sponsored peace talks have stalled over the issue of settlements, Israel`s national police force has revealed that it is turning to the very same illegal communities in its first-ever drive to recruit officers from among the settlers. The special officer training course, which is chiefly aimed at discharged combat soldiers, includes seven months of religious studies in an extremist settlement in the occupied West Bank. The program has provoked widespread concern among Israel`s 1.3 million Palestinian citizens, a fifth of the population.

|The mendacity of "restraint" ||Richard Irvine - The Electronic Intifada - A quick look at the division of the West Bank under the Oslo process into Areas "A," "B" and "C" shows clearly how in Area C, the area remaining under full Israeli control, this vision of annexation and expropriation has been put into practice. Area C comprises 59 percent of the West Bank but only 4 percent of its Palestinian population -- it is the sector containing all of Israel`s settlements. Those unfortunates who live there are subject to all kinds of discriminatory laws and practices.
|The dangers of tolerating Jewish terrorism ||ROI MAOR - The Jerusalem Post - According to news reports, Israel Police is investigating testimony by Palestinians that a group of settlers arrived at the mosque in the middle of the night early Monday and set it on fire. Increasingly, we can see organized activities using violence as a tool for achieving political purposes.||7/10/2010|
