Israeli West Bank Archaeological Digs Must Not Be Made Public, Top Court Rules | | Nir Hasson - Haaretz - The decision upholds both the state’s position and a lower court ruling. The state had argued that releasing the names of the archaeologists carrying out the digs would make them vulnerable to academic boycotts.
The original petition was filed with the Jerusalem District Court by two left-wing organizations, Yesh Din and Emek Shaveh.
Under the 1954 Hague Convention, an occupying power is forbidden to remove archaeological findings from occupied territory. [bz] | 21/5/2019 |

Trump`s Planning a Wedding in Bahrain. But He Forgot to Invite the Groom | | Noa Landau - Ha`aretz - Anyone who has kept track of the murky
relations between the Palestinian Authority and the Trump
administration to date are not surprised by Palestinian Prime
Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh declaring that the PA will not cooperate
with an event that meant to symbolize the launching of Trump`s plan.
“Any solution to the conflict in Palestine must be political ... and
based on ending the occupation. The current financial crisis is a
result of a financial war waged against us and we will not succumb
to blackmailing and extortion and will not trade our national rights
for money. The Palestinian leadership will not agree under any
circumstances to a formula of just improving the lives of Palestinian
citizens under the Israeli occupation”.[ak]

The return of Palestinian refugees is quite possible ...despite what Israel may claim. | | Ahmed Abu Artema -
Al-Jazeera -
"Every year, in our communities we count how many elderly Palestinians who witnessed the Nakba are left. Although their numbers shrink with every passing Nakba day, the memory of what happened seven decades ago is kept alive. The keys to the homes from which they were forcefully expelled are passed on to us, the younger generation, as we continue the struggle for the return of all Palestinian refugees." - id | 17/5/2019 |

After long ambiguity, Madonna will sing at Tel Aviv Eurovision | | Jerusalem Post - For several weeks Pop superstar Madonna kept
everybody guessing on whether or not she would make a guest
appearance on Saturday during the Eurovision finals in Tel Aviv.
Activists of such groups as Jewish Voice for Peace had been
intensively campaigning for her to boycott the event, reminding
Madonna of her oten reiterated commitment to Human Rights. This
morning, just a few hours before the Eurovision semi-finals,
organizers told the media: "We still don`t know whether or not
Madonna will come, she did not yet sign a contact with us". A few
hours later, however, Madonna announced in Los Angeles that she
finally decided in favor of coming to sing in Tel Aviv, telling
Reuters: "I`ll never stop playing music to suit someone`s political
agenda nor will I stop speaking out against violations of human
rights wherever in the world they may be," the singer said in a

US Government Denies Visa to Renowned Palestinian Legislator Hanan Ashrawi | | Celine Hagbard - IMEMC - In what seems yet another incident in the ongoing
confrontation between the Trump Administration and the Palestinians,
the United States had denied a visa to the veteran Palestinian
legislator and diplomat, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi. No reason was given, the
State Department stating: “Visa records are confidential under U.S.
law". Dr. Ashrawi had studied in the US, visited there often and had
contacts with both Democrat and Republican administrations over
decades, and until the advent of Trump there was never any doubt on
her getting an American visa. Ashrawi had a back-and-forth on
Twitter with Jason Greenblatt, Donald on Israel. Three months ago,
in response to an Ashrawi tweet criticizing U.S. policy toward the
Palestinian people, Trump adviser Jason Greenblatt responded on

How a Standoff With the U.S. Almost Blew Up Israel`s Nuclear Program | | Haaretz - At the height of the crisis, some actually feared a U.S.
army raid on Israel`s nuclear facility in Dimona (...) President
Kennedy insisted on biannual American inspection visits to Dimona,
which would have made it effectively impossible to carry on a
military
nuclear program there.(...) The confrontation escalated with
Kennedy’s June 15 letter, akin to an ultimatum: If the U.S.
government could not obtain “reliable information” on the state of
the Dimona project, Washington’s “commitment to and support of
Israel” could be “seriously jeopardized.”(...) We will never know
how unwavering President Kennedy would have been on the issue of
Dimona, had he lived to serve his full term (or even two terms) as
president. (...) As it was, Kennedy was assassinated in November
1963, a few months after that letter was delivered. President Lyndon
B. Johnson did occasionally raise the issue, but he never pressed
hard on the subject the way that Kennedy had. The biannual
inspection visits to Dimona, which Kennedy had insisted on, were
never implemented. [ak]
