Lapid: Antisemitism is similar to the slave trade and the Hutu massacres of Tutsis | | Jeremy Sharon - The Jerusalem Post - Foreign Minister Yair Lapid
said on Wednesday that antisemitism was part of a broad family of
hatreds, and that antisemites start by attacking Jews but “always”
move on to focus their hate and violence on other groups as well.
He asserted that antisemitism was akin to other hatreds in such as
ones held by those who participated in the slave trade, the Hutu
massacres of Tutsis in Rwanda, and Islamist extremists.
“Antisemitism isn’t the first name of hate, it’s the family name,”
the foreign minister asserted. He went on to relate what he heard
from his father father, Tommy Lapid, who had been thirteen years old
in Nazi-occupied Hungary and who both at the time itself and later
gave much thought to "how could a person become so full of hate,
prejudice and venom that he might want to kill a 13-year old boy."

`The home of an entire family should not be demolished for the actions of one individual` | | Jacob Magid - Times of Israel - “As we stated numerous times, the home
of an entire family should not be demolished for the actions of one
individual." The US was “following” reports of the demolition
of the home lived in by the reportedly estranged wife of Muntasir
Shalabi and their children. "We believe it is critical for all parties to refrain
from unilateral steps that exacerbate tensions and undercut efforts
to advance a negotiated two-state solution, this certainly includes
the punitive demolition of Palestinian homes." This is the first
public American criticism of an act taken by the new Israeli
government which was installed after the demise of the long standing
PM Netanyhau.[ak] | 10/7/2021 |

High Court rejects petitions against Nation-State Law | | Jerusalem Post - Justice George Karra was of the minority opinion, saying that some parts of the law challenge Israel`s democratic nature. Karra said that the law ignoring Arab and Druze citizens of Israel harms the principle of equality that is not explicitly established in the law. The Nation-State Law was heavily criticized for delineating Jewish national rights and symbols including the importance of “Jewish settlement,” but without any language guaranteeing the equality of all citizens, especially minorities.
Advocates of the bill argued, however, that equality for all citizens is legislated in Israel’s Basic Law: human dignity and freedom, while there had been no previous laws delineating Israel’s Jewish character.[bz] | 8/7/2021 |

Former Meretz leader: Don’t vote for reunification law | | Times of Israel - Former Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On calls on the faction’s current lawmakers to oppose extending the Palestinian family reunification law.
“Meretz petitioned [the Supreme Court] twice against this racist law,” Gal-On tells Army Radio. “There cannot be a compromise here. Any compromise is a capitulation.” [bz] | 8/7/2021 |

Labour Party tries to intimidate The Electronic Intifada | | Ali Abunimah - Electronic Intifada - Britain’s Labour Party tried to pressure The Electronic Intifada to alter an article we published last week with an apparent legal threat.
The 25 June article article by Asa Winstanley reveals that two Labour officers banned a local party branch from debating a motion calling for sanctions on Israel.
It shows that Kim Bolton, chair of Hove and Portslade Constituency Labour Party, on the south coast of England, and Labour South East organizer Scott Horner, decided that discussing the motion “would undermine the party’s ability to provide a safe and welcoming space” for Jewish members.
Bolton also concluded that a debate on sanctions against Israel may lead to “anti-Semitic behavior.” [bz] | 3/7/2021 |

Palestinians` rage grows — against their own governing authority | | DW - The Israeli-occupied West Bank is no stranger to political
upheaval. But in the past week, Palestinian protesters have directed
rising anger against their own government, the Palestinian
Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in parts of the
territory. Hundreds took to the streets in several towns over the
past weekend to protest the violent death in Palestinian custody of
Nizar Banat, a well-known critic of Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas and the Palestinian Authority. It`s the culmination of long-
simmering anger against an authority many Palestinians feel is out
of touch. [ak] | 3/7/2021 |
