Israeli app claims victory over ethnic studies in California | | Nora Barrows-Friedman -
Electronic Intifada
"An Israel-backed propaganda app is claiming credit for pressuring
California education officials to revise a proposed ethnic studies
curriculum for public schools...In its present model, the curriculum
includes an accurate description of the boycott, divestment and
sanctions (BDS) campaign for Palestinian rights. It defines it as a
“global social movement that currently aims to establish freedom for
Palestinians living under apartheid conditions.” The curriculum
project was sidelined in August after Israel advocacy groups
complained that the guidelines omit discussions of anti-Semitism."

The Only JewishGhetto in the Middle East | | Gilad Atzmon -
Information Clearing House
" While Netanyahu has proven to be prettycautious in his deployment
of Israel’s vast militaryforces, we have good reason to believe that
acoalition led by Blue and White and its IDFgenerals, Lieberman and
Netanyahu, may be less adeptat such maneuvers. The components of
Israel’s nextgovernment are destined to compete among themselvesfor
the ‘Mr. Security’ title. They will bedetermined to reinstate the
long faded Israeli ‘power of deterrence,’ and presumably, they
willpush for questionable measures that will likely pullthe region
into carnage." ca | 27/9/2019 |

Otzma Yehudit is out. Does that mean Israelis reject Kahanism? | | Natasha Roth -

"Twenty-one years ago, Rabbi Meir Kahane stared into the camera
during an election ad for his Kach party and told viewers, “[the
Arabs of Israel] want to kill us, they want to wipe us out, and it
is up to each and every Jew to rise up and say, ‘never again.’” Last
Wednesday, six days out from the most recent Israeli elections,
Benjamin Netanyahu’s Facebook chatbot sent users a message warning
them of the dangers of a “left-wing, secular, weak government that
relies on Arabs who want to annihilate us all — women, children, and
men.” That is why, the message said, voters needed to guarantee his
place at the head of a right-wing, Jewish, “strong” government." ca | 27/9/2019 |

Gandhi’s grandson has a message for Israel | | Yulia Karra -
YNET News
"His grandfather is one of the most famous people in world history,
who inspired freedom and civil rights movements across the world.
Dr. Arun Gandhi followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by
advocating the concept of “non-violence,” sometimes perhaps crossing
the line of what is seemingly acceptable, by suggesting that
Israelis talk too much about the Holocaust... I believe the Old
Testament says: what you gain by the sword, you have to retain by
the sword (I am paraphrasing here). History of the past 70-odd years
shows that the conflict has only become more and more vicious. So,
peace is not going to come to the region by killing each other but
by speaking to each other with respect, understanding, acceptance
and appreciation." ca

Ayman Odeh: We Are Ending Netanyahu’s Grip on Israel | | Ayman Odeh - The New York Times - Yet this time, we are making a
different choice. We have decided to demonstrate that Arab
Palestinian citizens can no longer be rejected or ignored. Our
decision to recommend Mr. Gantz as the next prime minister without
joining his expected national unity coalition government is a clear
message that the only future for this country is a shared future,
and there is no shared future without the full and equal
participation of Arab Palestinian citizens. We will continue our
work toward a better, equal future, and our struggle for civil
rights, rooted in our national identity as Palestinians. There is
room enough for all of us in our shared homeland. [ak] | 24/9/2019 |

As Islamophobia Is Embraced Worldwide, Israel Allows Itself to Let Loose | | Ofri Ilany - Haaretz - The BBC-HBO television series “Years and Years,” which premiered earlier this year, is a drama about the political deterioration of the world. In the opening scene of the first episode, Emma Thompson appears as Vivienne Rook, an uninhibited populist politician. Asked on a talk show what she would say to a Palestinian family in the Gaza Strip about the fact that Israel has reduced their supply of electric power to two hours a day, she responds straight off: “I don’t give a fuck.”
Within the series’ narrative framework, Rook’s callous remark is meant to show the no-holds-barred approach of contemporary populist politicians – a vulgar style that discards the conventional rules of the game and shakes the foundations of the normative political edifice. Indeed, in the series, Rook’s viewers are dumbfounded by her bluntness. But from our local perspective it shows how the Palestinian people are becoming one of the chief victims of the new world order. [bz] | 24/9/2019 |

I was stopped from speaking out against Israel’s crimes – Britain’s complicity in Palestinian repression must end | | Omar Barghouti - The Independent - I was planning to expose the deepening complicity of the British government, corporations and institutions, in enabling Israel’s brutal system of oppression, while highlighting how Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions – a non-violent tactic against the occupation – has become a significant partner in a growing international progressive wave fighting the global far-right led by Trump.
Yet the space in which advocates of Palestinian rights can – without persecution – expose decades of Palestinian dispossession, forcible displacement and daily humiliation by a settler-colonial regime is shrinking rapidly. To the Palestinians, Gantz and Netanyahu are Coke and Pepsi | | Elior Levy - YNet - "Honestly, the difference between (Blue and
White leader Benny) Gantz and (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu
isn`t bigger than the difference between Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola,"
said Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh at a conference in
Ramallah, and received a round of applause from the laughing
audience. The prevailing opinion among Palestinians is that a Unity
Government in Israel would not change much with respect to them, as
both party leaders agree on key issues. The Palestinian publicist
Ashraf al-Ajrami tried to paint possible scenarios for forming an
Israeli government: "A Unity Government will continue with current
policy, but without extreme initiatives, such as annexing the Jordan
Valley," said The Palestinian publicist Ashraf al-Ajrami."It may
turn to partial steps, but anyway, this government will be tough for
the Palestinians."[ak]. | 24/9/2019 |

Netanyahu on Steroids: What a Gantz-led Government Means for Palestine | | Ramzy Baroud - MEMO - "When it comes to war, Gantz is Netanyahu on steroids.
He has participated, orchestrated or led many military campaigns, including ones
aimed at suppressing any resistance in Gaza, in Lebanon and during the previous
popular uprisings. For Gantz, war is the answer, as indicated by one of his
campaign slogans, `Only the strong survive`” [ry] | 23/9/2019 |

The end of the Netanyahu era doesn`t mean the end of the occupation | | Haggai Matar - As election results started pouring in Tuesday night,
one could hear a sigh of relief – and even some cries of joy – among
Israelis who identify with the center-left.This is no small matter.
Given political patterns in Israel over the past decade, the
departure of Netanyahu might signal a shift in a new direction. We
might be seeing the last days of a decade-long, Trump-like style of
leadership based on racist rhetoric toward Palestinian citizens,
left-wing NGOs, the media, and the judicial system. This is indeed a
reason to rejoice.
The occupation, however, is not going anywhere. Israeli military
control over the day-to-day lives of millions of Palestinians in the
West Bank, the siege on Gaza, and the structural discrimination
against hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in East Jerusalem are
all here to stay. None of these three aforementioned groups were
allowed to vote for the government that decides their fate.[ak]

In defeat, Netanyahu holds to anti-Arab rhetoric | | Anshel Pfeffer - Haaretz - There were only about 300 die-hard
supporters still left cheering for Netanyahu in a hall that can
hold over 1,000, and that not all of Likud`s ministers had arrived.
But his nemesis Gideon Sa`ar was there, smiling his cryptic smile.
It was not a concession speech. Netanyahu¡¯s plan is ¡°to enter talks
in order to form a strong Zionist government and to prevent a
dangerous anti-Zionist government.¡± In other words, the political
landscape may have changed Tuesday night, but Netanyahu is sticking
to his principles. The left wants to form ¡°a government that relies
on anti-Zionist Arab parties. Parties that deny the very existence
of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Parties that glorify
bloodthirsty terrorists who murder our soldiers, citizens and
children.¡± This must be prevented, he said. [ak] | 18/9/2019 |

Two Elections, One Apartheid State | | Ariel Gold - AntiWar - "Most polls predict that Netanyahu will continue as prime
minister. But as we watch this round of voting in Israel, let’s remember that only

The two-state solution can be achieved through a confederation | | Yossi Beilin - Jerusalem Post - I’m not speaking about a joint super-parliament or about some kind of a rotating leadership, but about joint authorities in agreed-upon sectors, and about arrangements which may make the lives of both peoples much more convenient. The issue of settlement can be solved so that Israelis to the east of the new border will be allowed to remain in the settlements, if they wish so, as Palestinian permanent citizens who obey the Palestinian law. These settlements won’t be exclusive Israeli villages or towns anymore, but no Israeli should be evacuated from his or her home. The same number of Palestinian citizens should be allowed to live in Israel as permanent residents, vetted by Israel.

The War Ahead: Netanyahu’s Elections Gamble Will be Costly for Israel | | Ramzy Baroud - CounterPunch - “However, the ‘Mr. Security’ credentials that

among Israelis, especially those living in the northern parts of the country and in
illegal Jewish settlements in the Occupied Golan Heights” [ry] | 9/9/2019 |

Cabinet approves PM-pushed camera bill despite AG’s opposition | | TOI staff -
"The controversial bill would allow observers from political parties
to bring cameras into polling stations. The so-called camera bill is
backed by Netanyahu and his ruling Likud party, and has drawn fierce
criticism from rival politicians who have accused the party of
trying to rush through the legislation ahead of the September 17
vote... On Saturday, former prime minister Ehud Barak, who is
running in the upcoming elections with the left-wing Democratic Camp
alliance, suggested Netanyahu could be seeking a scrap with
Mandelblit as a pretext for firing him.Mandelblit has recommended
Netanyahu be charged with fraud and breach of trust in three
separate corruption cases, as well as bribery in one of them.
Lawyers for the premier, who denies any wrongdoing, are set to
attend a pre-indictment hearing with Mandelblit on October 2-3, just
weeks after the election." ca
