A former soldier in the Givati Brigade has been summoned to a hearing regarding the shooting deaths of two Palestinian women, ages 64 and 35, during Operation Cast Lead.

It appears likely that the soldier will be charged by chief Army prosecutor Avi Mandleblit in causing the death of the two Palestinian civilians.

The killing of Ria Abu Hajaj, 64, and her daughter Majda Abu Hajaj, 37, in Juhar a-Dik on January 4, 2009 near Gaza city was included in a list of possible human rights violations during Operation Cast lead by the the human rights organization B`tselem.

Witness testimony claimed that the two women, a mother and daughter, were part of a group that were walking under a white flag, in a case that was cited by the Goldstone Report.

Originally, the civilian casualties were thought to have been caused by tank fire from IDF armor in the area but was later determined to have been caused by ammunition fired from a soldier`s M-16 rifle.
