Report Of Recent UK `Boycott Israeli and Settlement Dates During Ramadan` Events Sunday
Report Of Recent `Boycott Israeli and Settlement Dates During Ramadan` Events

Dear Members and Supporters,

A short report of two very successful events we held over the last 2 Days.

Acton Mosque Friday 6 August

As we had a little time before the main event at the Mosque, we
started leafleting outside Morrisons supermarket and the Friday
market. We had a good response. Just one example, a stallholder and
her daughter approached us and asked for a stack of our Boycott
Israeli and Settlement dates postcards which she put on her clothes
stall to give to customers; she also took `Free Palestine` badges to
wear.

We moved to Acton Mosque and had 6 members and supporters - so we had
both presence and impact. As people emerged we handed out our PSC West
London Boycott Israeli and Settlement Dates postcards. The response
was extremely positive. People approached us asked us for the
postcards and signaled their support. My guess is that 90% of people
took postcards and almost all were reading them; we distributed about
500 postcards in the space of only 30 minutes- to young and old alike.
One regular worshipper - whom we had never met before - took piles of
the postcards and distributed them and talked to people he knew as
they emerged from the Mosque.

Sorry,we did not have time to stop and take any pictures.

Edgware Road Saturday Saturday 7 August

This was a joint event organised by PSC West London and Friends of Al
Aqsa focused on the many Arab shops and shoppers in the area. We had a
large turnout - there were 15 of us from PSC, Friends of Al Aqsa, ISM
(International Solidarity Movement) and also independent solidarity
activists. A great example of the power of joint campaigning ; and
thank you to everyone who helped with the event.

The numbers of activists alone gave us impact but we had something
special for the day. A PSC West London supporter had produced very
attractive placards in Arabic- see photo attached. It was noticeable
how many people in the area read the Arabic placards and as a result
took leaflets and postcards from us to learn more.

We approached shop owners and shoppers all the way from the Marble
Arch end of Edgware Road right up to and in the the large street
market near Edgware Road tube station. We approached people sitting in
cafes, and shop owners - many of whom took materials to put on their
shop counters. The response was very positive and here are just a few
examples I experienced which give a flavour of the day; one lady
shopper gave us a box of dates (not Israeli or Settlement produce) to
share as her appreciation for what we were doing. A foreign exchange
shop owner came out of his shop and asked for a stack of boycott
postcards to put on his till for customers. A lady and her daughter
,who were shopping in the market, asked me for a pile of postcards
and then approached women shoppers, talking to them and handing them
boycott postcards - they did this for over half an hour. A young
Palestinian man from Nazareth approached us and thanked us for what we
were doing- he thought at first we were paid leaflet distributors;
when we explained we were just ordinary people who campaigned for
Palestinian rights he was even more pleased. We asked him to let his
friends and family know that there were very many people in the UK who
supported and campaigned for and supported Palestinians; he said he
would be sure to do this.

We distributed large amounts of materials; over 1,000 of PSC West
London`s Boycott postcards and that was on top of the materials from
Friends of Al Aqsa ; and as always we worked to engage with people in
conversation.
Hope you like the photos.

Our next event will be on Friday 13 August 1.15pm to 2.15 pm outside
Hounslow Mosque; full details to follow.

As always, we welcome your feedback and comments about any aspects of
