The call to rescind Habima’s invitation to the Shakespeare festival has nothing to do with Shakespeare, and everything to do with its complicity in violations of international law : Response to Whitewashing attempt by Stephen Marche (New York Times)
LETTER TO THE EDITOR ( response to Stephen Marche )

As members of the Israeli citizen group Boycott from Within, we would like to
address Stephen Marche’s op-ed
(http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/11/opinion/another-trial-for-shylock.html).

The call to rescind Habima’s invitation to the Shakespeare festival in London
has nothing to do with Shakespeare’s play, and everything to do with Habima’s
active complicity in gross violations of international law. Through its
performances in the Israeli settlement of Ariel in the occupied West Bank,
Habima, Israel’s national theatre, collaborates with and profits from an illegal
military occupation, the illegal colonization of Palestinian land and resources,
and a discriminatory system which amounts to apartheid. In response to Marche’s
question as to why focus on Israel, it should be stressed that the the largest
coalition of Palestinian civil society bodies, representing millions of people
living under occupation, had asked for our solidarity, and we have heeded their
call.

Sincerely

Boycott! Supporting the Palestinian BDS Call from Within (BfW)
