Appeal to the delegates in Washington
Israeli Committee for a Middle East Free of Atomic, Biological and Chemical weapons

13 April 2010

To the delegates of the Washington conference on nuclear arms reduction.

To those who put the interests of all Humanity above those of any nation,

In the past 50 years no other region in the world has had more wars than the Middle-East. It still has the largest number of unresolved political conflicts.

M-E governments exert themselves to acquire weapons of mass-destruction for use as a threat - or deterrent - in future wars. These weapons increase political tension even without being used. When they will be used their effect will be ominous far beyond the M-E itself. Local efforts to stop M-E governments from slipping down the lethal slope to mass-destruction are too weak to achieve results. Only severe international sanctions imposed on every M-E government producing or hoarding weapons of mass-destruction can avert a disaster. We call upon you to use all means necessary to stop all M-E governments from producing - or hoarding - all weapons of mass destruction.

Unless you apply severe sanctions to all M-E government producing - or hoarding – weapons of mass-destruction your efforts will be seen as insincere. Applying sanctions selectively by allowing some governments to keep such weapons are counter-productive. It will increase the dangers that those concerned about the welfare of all humanity try to avert.
