Today marks the first Friday of protest after the 10th anniversary of the begining of the second intifada. All over the West Bank peaceful protest over the occupation of the Palestinian Territories was met with violence from the Israeli military.

Although the Palestinian cause has not always been free from their own acts of violence, the current trend is towards non-violent measures, indicated by the Popular Committees in villages such as Biílin, Niílin and An Nabi Saleh near Ramallah, and al-Maísara near Bethlehem, and the work of intellectuals and community leaders, such as Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh.

Sadly, this movement has been met with hardship, such as the death of Biílinís Bassem Abu Rahma in April 2009, amongst others, and the imprisonment of a great many individuals.

Despite this, these non-violent activists struggle on.
