Palestinians in the occupied West Bank will amass to march to Jerusalem through the Qalandiya and Bethlehem checkpoints, as part of the Global March to Jerusalem.

The Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ) is an international action comprised of a diverse coalition of Palestinian, Arab and international activists, all planning to march to Jerusalem tomorrow. Demonstrations and marches will take place in Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. The protesters will march under the slogan of `demanding freedom for Jerusalem and its people`. The organizers of the GMJ stated that the “aim is to end the Zionist policies of apartheid, ethnic cleansing and Judaisation, which all harm the people, land and sanctity of Jerusalem.”

In addition to the protests at Qalandiya and Bethlehem, which will start after the Friday midday’s prayer, protests are also scheduled to take place at the old city of occupied Jerusalem, as well as in the villages of Bil`in and Ni`ilin west of Ramallah, Kufer al-Dik near Salfit, Kufer Qaddoum north of Qalqilya, al-Ma`asara south of Bethlehem and Nabi Saleh north of Ramallah.

The GMJ will coincide with Land Day - the anniversary of the historic March 30th, 1976 protests, when thousands of Palestinian citizens in Israel took to the streets to protest the intention of Israeli authorities to confiscate around 2,000 dunums from the villagers of Sakhnin, Arabbeh and Deir Hana in the Galilee. The demonstrations spread widely to other Palestinian villages and cities, and where suppressed brutally by Israeli authorities. Six protesters were killed then, hundreds were wounded and hundreds more imprisoned. Since then, Land Day has become an annual day of commemoration and resistance for Palestinians.
