Silent March For Freedom for Refugees – Sat. Dec. 28, 2013, Tel Aviv

This Saturday night, we Israelis and refugees together, will MARCH IN SILENCE
FOR THE FREEDOM AND HUMAN RIGHTS OF AFRICAN REFUGEES IN ISRAEL. Together we will
take a stand against the unjust imprisonment of refugees without trial and
against the recent wave of arbitrary arrests of our African brothers and sisters
in our cities. We will demand that the government of Israel release asylum
seekers from prison, hear asylum seekers’ claims for refuge, and recognize the
rights of refugees.

WE WILL MARCH IN SILENCE from Levinsky Park to Rabin Square. We will march in
silence in solidarity with African asylum seekers imprisoned without trial, and
all those who live in fear of persecution and arrest. We will march in silence
for all of the residents of south Tel Aviv whose needs for too long have gone
unheard. We will march in silence to let justice speak for itself. We will march
in silence and through our silence make the clearest statement of all: We are
all refugees. We are all human beings who yearn to be free.

19:00 Gathering in Levinsky Park (Levinsky St. corner Har Zion St.) – Brief
instructions & reminder of why we are marching.
19:15 Silent March from Levinsky Park to Rothschild to HaBimah to Rabin Square
20:15 Gathering in Rabin Square – Brief speeches, communal song, and call to
action.
20:45 Conclusion

*NOTE: We will be walking quietly and peacefully with the permission and
protection of the Israeli Police. At the same time, in light of the recent wave
of arrests of refugees, we cannot guarantee the anonymity of marchers from the
Immigration Authorities. For all the more reason, we ask that all marchers join
us in silence and peace, refugees and Israelis together, and we hope and expect
that our march will begin and end peacefully, as we continue to march in the
direction of freedom and peace.
