The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil,    but because of the people who don't do anything about it

Guy Hirschfeld’s post on the Palestinian Jordan Valley:
While on our way we were already informed by phone that the bulldozer was seen on the road, escorted by the Civil Administration. Through our local contacts we located the forces.

We will probably never quite understand the panic that seizes the locals when they feel that they’re next – some of them simply begin to evacuate their homes, knowing that the evil agents will not even let them get their meager possessions out in time.

As always, we documented the crime today, when suddenly the Israel Police arrived. The officer, already nervous, claimed he received a complaint that we were getting in the way, and demanded that we leave. We explained the law to him, so he decided to detain the activists.

It was embarrassing to watch the officer trying to convince the agents/servants of the Civil Administration to lodge a complaint against us for having disturbed them in their assignment. Since his attempt failed, he released the activist.

As we were speaking with him, his phone rang – settlers from the outpost at Al Hama arrived again, on their frightening horses, and threatened the shepherds. My request that the officer come there with me was not even acknowledged.

When we got there, the Palestinians said that strangely enough, after two minutes the settlers left. I believe that at the legal proceeding that will take place soon we will ask for and receive recordings of the talks, and we shall several talks that are surprisingly similar in time to the ones I have, between the policemen on the scene and the Jewish terrorists.

Before we even had time enough to calm down and rest, we were alerted that the settlers from the Umm Zuka outpost were harassing the shepherds again. Naturally when we got there peace and quiet were reigning…

Another routine day in the Palestinian Jordan Valley.-rh
