Red Rag column - the State Comptroller`s report on the Gaza war
By: Gideon Spiro

2 March 2017 (English translation 19 March 2017)

The State Comptroller’s Report

Opponents of the Occupation did not need the State Comptroller’s Report to know that “Operation Strong Cliff” (called by Israel “Operation Protective Edge” in English), was a criminal operation, a failure, unnecessary and completely unjustified. Now we have the report of the State Comptroller, which reveals that the government did not discuss any political alternative to war. And why should the ministers of the Bennett-Netanyahu government have discussed political alternatives, when they are a bunch of bloodthirsty warmongers, criminals who should be put on trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague?

We have not forgotten the liquidation of entire families in Gaza, hundreds of children killed for no crime they committed. The deaths of the seventy Israeli soldiers who were killed in that operation were in vain, and they join the thousands of victims who were killed in vain in the wars that Israel initiated. The people of Israel will remember their negligent and criminal leaders and will call them to account.

Eyes right

The Judicial Selection Committee, headed by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, has chosen four new judges for the Supreme Court, who will shift the already right-wing court even further to the Right. Among the new judges is the settler David Mintz from the settlement of Dolev, who joins the settler Noam Solberg from the settlement of Alon Shvut. Thus the number of settler judges in the Supreme Court has been doubled, and now constitute 13% of the judges in the Supreme Court, as against 4% of the general population.

Israel is the only state in whose highest judicial institution sit judges who live outside the borders of the state over which they have jurisdiction. Additionally, both judges are criminals and party to the theft of lands and the regime of apartheid in the Occupied Territories. As we know, the settlements constitute a war crime under the Rome Statute.
