ISRAEL: Refuser Noa Gur Golan imprisoned

04 AUG 2017

Conscientious objector Noa Gur Golan from Israel was sentenced to 30 days in
military prison for her refusal to serve in the military. She has already
spent for 14 days behind bars last month, after refusing to enlist for the
first time.

When her sentence will be over, Gur-Golan will refuse again and probably be
sentenced to another term in prison.

Towards her imprisonment, Gur-Golan published a post on social media, in
which she wrote: “I am going back to military prison tomorrow with mixed
feelings. Honestly? It is tough to go back. I feel very passive in prison,
lots of hours of doing nothing in the cell... It is very easy for me to
forget why I am even there. On the other hand, when I think of the true
reason for my refusal, I am filled with strength to keep up the fight. My
personal fight, to live and contribute to society according to my
conscience, and fight that is much bigger than me and my refusal- the fight
for peace, for real security and freedom for all those who live here –
Israelis and Palestinians. Out of faith in humans and not in weapons. I know
there is another way.”

War Resisters` International calls for the immediate release of all
conscientious objectors
