Israel could face ICC charges if bill expelling terrorist families passes, expert warns | | The Jerusalem Post - Israel may face criminal charges at the
International Criminal Court in The Hague if it approves legislation
to expel the families of Palestinian terrorists, a top Israeli human
rights expert warned. The bill received preliminary approval in the
ministerial committee for legislation. The legislation, which now
needs Knesset approval, allows for members of a terrorist’s family
to be expelled from their home within seven days of an attack or
attempted attack. According to the IDF, they will be forced to
relocate to another area of the West Bank. Attorney-General Avichai
Mandeblit has said that the forced relocation of terrorist’s family
members is illegal under Israel and international law. PM Netnayahu
defended the bill and said the measure "would be effective" and
would only be applied in cases of murder. [The background seems to
be the looming elections in which Netanyahu`s Likud Party will
contend for votes with Naftali Bennet`s extreme right "Jewish Home
Party". [ak]

Army: no connection between Lebanon border operation and police investigation of Netanyahu | | Judah Ari Gross - The Times of Israel - The IDF vehemently denied
allegations that the timing of "Operation Northern Shield", suddenly
launched this morning, is connected to the recent Israel Police
recommendation to press bribery charges against PM Netanyahu.
¡§There¡¦s no cynicism here, the operation was planned over the past
year and a half and its launch was determined weeks ago, before the
police recommendations were released". The army asserted that "an
attack tunnel reaching 200-meter from Lebanon into Israeli territory
has been discovered and is now being destroyed", and that it is but
"the first of many". While at present the destruction of tunnels is
limited to the Israeli side of the border, the army did not rule out
the option of later on sending soldiers into Lebanese territory in
order to discover and destroy tunnels - and act which is almost
certain to cause a major escalation and flareup along the border.

Murder of 12-year-old girl shows human rights in Israel are only for Jews | | Vered Lee -

"The asylum-seeker community in Israel is in a state of crisis and
its women and teenage girls are paying an increasingly heavy price.
Women are a minority among the refugees – there are only 7,000
female asylum seekers in Israel. Thirty percent of these were
victims of abuse and torture in the Sinai desert, and many of them
have suffered sexual harassment at work but don’t report it. Without
access to the police and out of fear of how the authorities will
relate to them, these women and girls don’t report the domestic
violence they suffer. The handful who do report it do not get
protection from the police and say that their partners ignore
restraining orders fearlessly. Battered women’s shelters are not set
