Veolia reportedly drops light rail project, but campaign goes on Adri Nieuwhof - EI - "The `Derail Veolia and Alstom Campaign,` carried out by activists in many countries, is pressuring the two French transport companies to quit the light rail project. In early June, the leading French newspaper Le Monde published an article summing up the successes of the campaign, reporting that the company is losing money because of the publicity of its role in a project that is in violation of international law" 15/6/2009

Israeli Navy takes control of aid boat headed for Gaza Free Gaza Movement/Reuters - At around noon Tuesday the Israeli Navy intercepted and took control of "The Spirit of Humanity" off the Gaza coast. Direct contact with the boat was cut off, according to the Israeli media it is being towed to the port of Ashdod. IsraeliNavy sources claim no shooting and no harm to passangers or crew - as yet no independent confirmnation of this. 30/6/2009
Israeli forces beat Palestinian, Israeli activist north of Hebron; both sustain fractures Ghassan Bannoura - IMEMC - An Israeli and a Palestinian woman were severely beaten and between 15 and 24 Israeli activists were arrested as the group attempted to access Palestinian agricultural lands near the Bat Ayin settlement north of Hebron. Unlikely ally for residents of the West BankEthan Bronner - New York Times - It is perhaps best to think of Ezra Nawi as the Robin Hood of the South Hebron hills, an Israeli Jew helping poor locals who love him, and thwarting settlers and soldiers who view him with contempt.
