Snowden, Assange, Manning, Vanunu - the true heroes of our time | | Gideon Levy - Information Clearinghouse - Mordechai Vanunu and Anat Kamm also belong to this list of real Israeli heroes. They were likewise condemned and sentenced, punished and incarcerated, and no one here fully appreciated their contribution and bravery. Also Ilana Hammerman and her partners in the “Disobedience” organization, smuggling West Bank Palestinian women to Tel Aviv for day trips - an act that could see them potentially in court.-rh

Toronto Transit bans “Disappearing Palestine” ad, claiming "risk of anti-Jewish violence" | | Ali Abunimah - The Bullet/Portside - The Toronto Transit Commission
(TTC) has rejected a group`s bus ad showing Israel`s expropriation of
Palestinian land over time, claiming the ad could incite anti-Jewish
discrimination and violence. The centerpiece is a series of four maps
that show the loss of control of Palestinian land to the Zionist
movement and Israel between 1946 and the present. | 29/10/2013 |

French BDS activists face judicial proceedings at the Paris Palais de Justice | | Olivia Zémor - CAPJPO-EuroPalestine - We are expecting a large turnout
at the Paris
Palais de Justice at noon this Wednesday, when we will appear in court
for "inciting racial hatred and violence," because of our call for a
boycott of the Israeli occupier. The same appeals court, in the name of
freedom of speech, acquitted those who were responsible for the
publication of the cartoons showing the Prophet Muhammad carrying a bomb
in his turban, which was not seen as an incitation to hate or violence
nor in the least islamophobic. On the other hand, our peaceful actions,
which are not directed at Jews but at the colonial policies of the State
of Israel, are treated as antisemitic and are the objects of continual
harassment, with already 15 judicial proceedings. ak | 29/10/2013 |

South African committee adopts Marwan Barghouthi`s plight | | Ma`an - A conference in Cape Town saw the launch of a higher
international committee to free Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouthi
and all Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. Noble Prize winners
Desmond Tutu and his former cellmate Ahmed Kathrada - who was also
Nelson Mandela`s cellmate for 26 years. The campaign makes a direct link
between anti-Apartheid prisoners formerly held in Robben Island and
Palestinians now held in Israeli prisons. ak | 29/10/2013 |

French BDS supporters on trial for "Antisemitism" | | Olivia Zémor - EuroPalestine - Four French BDS activists will tomorrow
(Wed. Oct. 30) face charges of "antisemitism" and of "inciting racial
hatred". This is the 15th such case. Previous similar proceedings ended
with the court ruling that calling for boycott of Israel does not in
itself constitute "Antisemitism". However, supporters of the Israeli
government persist in making such accusations, and the French judiciary
persists in starting official proceedings again and again. | 22/10/2013 |

Join the South Hebron Hills children to protest settler violence - At-Tuwani, Oct 23. 2013 | | Operation Dove/Freedom Theatre - Children from the village of Tuba, on
their way to school, must walk past Ma’on Settlement and Havat Ma’on
Outpost. They daily face threats of violence - or actual violence - from
the settlers. The South Hebron Hills Popular Committee is organizing a
support action tomorrow (Oct 23rd) at 11am, including a performance by
The Freedom Theatre’s Freedom Bus troupe as well as by other Palestinian
and International artists. The action will commence at At-Tuwani`s
school and move to the hilltop near Ma’on Settlement. | 22/10/2013 |

If you want Two States, support BDS | | Kathleen Peratis - The Daily Beast - Most of those who populate the very
narrow ground that I stand on (I call them "sad Zionists") know that the
current peace process is at best a Hail Mary, that the occupation is a
lot more entrenched and sustainable than we ever thought, that the two-
state solution—along with our liberal Zionist dreams—is going down the
drain. For all of our efforts, why are we getting nowhere? For one
thing, we are fighting the fight with a hand tied behind our backs. We
hysterically condemn the use of a nonviolent tool that works. The tool
is Boycott, Divestment Sanction (BDS). ak

The Rabin assassination– and the immunity of rightwing Jewish terrorists | | Philip Weiss - Mondoweiss - We all know that Yigal Amir killed Rabin. But we don’t know much about the broader conspiracy. And while other conspirators were charged and convicted, Gurvitz said that the investigation was incomplete and feeble. If it had been vigorous, he said, it would have inflamed tensions inside Israeli society, and risked wider violence.-rh

Rights group: Israel cancels Jordan Valley evacuation | | B`Tselem/Ma`an - Earlier, an Israeli military officer ordered the
inhabitants of the Palestinian communities of al-Burj and al-Mita in the
Jordan Valley - 75 people including 35 children - to leave their homes
on Tuesday between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. while troops conduct a training
exercise. The Israeli Human Rights group B`Tselem lodged a strong
protest, pointing out that removing residents from their homes for
military exercises is unlawful, and that the evictions were timed for
Eid al-Adha, a major Muslim holiday. A few hours after the protest, the
army cancelled the planned eviction. ak | 15/10/2013 |

Tell your MEP`s to support guidelines on Israel’s participation in EU programs | | ICAHD - Although the EU Guidelines banning investment in Israeli institutions operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is not strictly a BDS action but rather one that merely enforces EU policies of conforming to international law, it has a similar effect. And the message is the same: the EU will not be party to perpetuating Israel`s 46-year occupation, with its attendant violations of international law, human rights and dozens of UN resolutions. Even before they have been implemented the Guidelines have had an impact on Israel: a shocking wake-up call, they have impelled Israel to enter into substantive negotiations with the Palestinians.-rh | 9/10/2013 |

The second intifada put holes in Israel’s wall of fear | | Budour Youssef Hassan -

"Although there are several negative aspects of the second intifada, it remains — for good or bad — a momentous, life-changing event for many Palestinians, particularly those of us born in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Village embroidery: preserving Palestinian heritage | | Resistance Art - The Palestinian cross-stitch needlepoint embroidery
goes back in history to the time of the Canaanites. At a young age,
Palestinian village women learned from mothers, grandmothers or older
sisters how to embroider dresses, head veils and caps decorated with
coins, as well cushions, coasters and covers. Costumes indicated the
social role and position, and each region of Palestine had its
distinctive style. Najat El-Taji El-Khairy has made it her mission to
preserve and document this specific form of Palestinian art. ak | 7/10/2013 |

The Greatest Human Rights Challenge Of Our Time | | Edward Snowden - Information Clearing House - A culture of secrecy has denied our societies the opportunity to determine the appropriate balance between the human right of privacy and the governmental interest in investigation. These are not decisions that should be made for a people, but only by the people after full, informed, and fearless debate. Yet public debate is not possible without public knowledge, and in my country, the cost for one in my position of returning public knowledge to public hands has been persecution and exile.-rh | 3/10/2013 |

Palestinians petition High Court to reclaim Jordan Valley land | | Chaim Levinson - Haaretz - The land was cultivated by Palestinians even after the Six-Day War. They were banished in 1969 after Palestinians began trying to return to the area from Jordan. The land was handed over to the World Zionist Organization. The WZO leased the land to the settlers; the government hoped to create a kind of buffer zone along the border.
