Al-Qiq ends 94-day hunger strike after deal struck with Israel | | Ma`an - Israel`s six-month administrative detention sentence against al-Qiq will not be renewed, while his lawyers managed to push the date of his release to May 21, he said.
The date will mark exactly six months since al-Qiq was detained from his home in Ramallah on Nov. 21, as opposed to six months from the date he was sentenced on Dec. 17.
"The military order will be the last one," Fares said.
He added that al-Qiq would also be allowed visits from his family, including his wife, two children, and father. [bz] | 27/2/2016 |

Israeli forces use excessive violence on peaceful demonstration in Hebron | | ISM - As the Palestinian, Israeli and international activists joined hands in trying to take down the military gate that locks off the access to Shuhada Street for Palestinians, allowing exclusive use for settlers from the illegal settlements only, the Israeli forces suddenly attacked the protestors throwing more than a dozen stun grenades at the crowd of people. While the demonstrators were running for cover, the Israeli forces unlocked the military gate and came running into the Palestinian market arresting a total of 12 activists from Hithabrut – Tarabut group and moved them to the Police station for interrogation. ISM calls for internationals to volunteer in Palestine | | International Solidarity Movement - Today, Palestinians are facing an enormous amount of pressure in their lives due to the growing violence of Israeli forces. They face restrictions of movement, daily harassment, intimidation and attacks at hands of Israeli occupying forces and extremist settlers. ISM is a Palestinian-led movement; our actions are initiated on the invitation of Palestinians, following their lead and wishes. We, as internationals, are needed to monitor human rights violations and show our support for the popular struggle.-rh | 17/2/2016 |

How new restrictions block Palestinian peace activists from Israel | | Shlomi Eldar - Al-Monitor - According to Schwartz, Palestinian peace activists in the West Bank have become targets for derision in the refugee camps. “They call them ‘Abu Salem’ ["Father of Peace"] and ask them sarcastically, ‘Where is your peace? Even the Israelis don’t want to hear you.’ It is tremendously frustrating and a great blow to anyone who believes that there’s another path, especially during such dark days as these.”-rh

Face to face with incitement | | Nurit Popper, Daphne Banai and Rajaa Natur - MachsomWatch - I saw the ‘incitement’ in the eyes of Zakariah, Hajjar’s 8-year old son. Zakariah’s home in Fassail has been demolished 4 times. The last demolition took place during the extreme heat wave in August 2015. Zakariah’s family was expelled from Ein Gedi in 1948. Later it was expelled from Jericho and from Nu’eima. Now his mother says: “By God, we have nowhere to go any more!” Even the present rocky terrain gives them no rest. We ask Hajjar how we could help, and she smiles shyly, saying “No, no, thank goodness you came here”. But Zakariah’s eyes spit fire. | 16/2/2016 |

Israeli doctor says Palestinian hunger striker could face immediate death | | Ma`an - Lawyer Hiba Masalha from the Palestinian Authority’s Prisoners’ Affairs Committee quoted the concerns of deputy director of HaEmek, Dr. Tubia, who said there was a “real danger” that al-Qiq’s internal organs were suffering damage.
“Each minute marks serious threat to his life, because it is probable that his inner organs will stop operating at any moment, leading to immediate death,” Tubia was quoted as saying. Al-Qiq on Thursday rejected an Israeli Supreme Court decision to temporarily suspend his detention without trial [and resume it upon improvement in his health condition] and said he will continue his hunger strike until "martyrdom or freedom." Al-Qiq rejects court freeze on detention, continues hunger strike | | Ma`an - The imprisoned journalist, Muhammad al-Qiq, views the court ruling as an attempt to undermine his resistance against the "immoral and inhumane administrative detention," referring to Israel`s internment of Palestinians without trial or charge.
Al-Qiq also said it was an attempt to undermine public and international opinion that is critical of Israeli policy.
The prisoners` committee said al-Qiq would not end his hunger strike unless Israel agreed to his full release. It added al-Qiq was refusing to receive medical treatment unless at a Palestinian hospital.
Earlier Thursday, the Israeli Supreme Court suspended his six-month administrative detention sentence citing medical concerns, with the sentence to be resumed upon an improvement of his health. [bz] | 5/2/2016 |
