Emergency demonstration: Yes to real peace, no to the Trump-Netanyahu annexation deal! Tel Aviv, Saturday night Feb. 1 | | Standing Together / Peace Now - The Trump-Netanyahu Plan is
dangerous for all of us, Israelis and Palestinians - to the future
of both peoples. This is the time for action, the time to stand up
and be counted. Saturday night, February 1, we will meet at 19:00 at
the Dizengoff Square in Tel Aviv. From there we will embark on an
emergency march through the streets of Tel Aviv , to demand the one
thing that will ensure a life of security for us, our families, our
children: negotiations to end the occupation and a peace between
two free and sovereign states, Israel and Palestine.

Israel lobby prompts federal investigations over Palestine events | | Nora Barrows-Friedman -
Electronic Intifada
"The US Department of Education has opened two separate
investigations into the University of California at Los Angeles
because of events that discussed advocacy for Palestinian rights. The
investigations have been prompted by complaints filed by Israel
lobby groups, which allege that Palestine-related education or
advocacy on campus is inherently anti-Semitic and discriminates
against Jewish students...The Middle East Studies Association’s
committee on academic freedom has called on NYU’s president to
reject “all efforts to weaponize allegations of anti-Semitism in
order to advance a political agenda.” ca

"Palestinians took to the streets today to protest the American so-
called deal of the century, hours before US President Donald Trump
is expected to reveal it in Washington...More rallies are expected
in the major cities at 7:00 p.m. local time (17:00 GMT) when Trump
is expected to reveal his plan after meeting Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu and his opponent, head of Blue/White party Benny
Gantz." ca

No Accident: Israel Targets Eye | | IMEMC News & Agencies - "Israeli snipers targeting participants in Gaza’s weekly
Great Return March protests have aimed for the legs—and eyes. To date, Gaza’s
Ministry of Health reports that 50 protesters have been shot in the eye since the
demonstrations began March 30, 2018—leaving them permanently blind" [ry] | 27/1/2020 |

Israeli activists visit Irish Embassy, call for recognition of Palestine | | Tsilli Goldenberg - Poalot - Today we visited the Embassy of Ireland
in Israel and presented the Ambassador, Mr. Kyle O’Sullivan, a
letter written in three languages – Arabic, Hebrew and English –
signed by us, the POALOT group and 50 Palestinian, Israeli, and
international peace activists. As we reiterated, there is no basis
for the claim, commonplace in the world today, that “peace will be
achieved only through negotiations with no pre-conditions”. Peace
will be achieved only by founding a Palestinian state in the 1967
borders and by implementing the Palestinians’ right of return to the
lands and property from which they were expelled in 1948.
We claim that the Palestinians’ right to a sovereign state of their
own, an end to the Israeli military occupation and a just, agreed-
upon solution of the refugee problem cannot depend upon the Israeli
government’s good will and we turn, therefore, to Ireland and to
other states to recognize the State of Palestine unilaterally and
support the Right of Return.[ak] | 21/1/2020 |

What made International herbalist experts change their mind about a conference in Israel? `The BDS Conspiracy`? | | Itamar Eichner - Y-net - Eleven herbal specialists from around the
world had been booked to attend the "The Ancient Roots" conference,
due to be held near Tiberias in February. The American Herbal
Guild (AHG) initially invited all its members to attend the event
in Israel. The prestigious guild, however, decided to pull its
support after a BDS activist named Shabina Lafleur-Gangji posted a
Facebook message, noting not only the general issue of Israel`s
mistreatment of the Palestinians, but also that the conference
itself featured no Palestinian or Muslim speakers, and did invite a
herbalist who is on record referring to Palestinians as "a non-
people" who "willfully left their ancestral lands". Following
Gangji`s post, two members of the AHG - one from the U.S. and
another from Ireland - cancelled their participation, and the
guild`s president demanded the conference`s organizers remove his
support video from their website. As a result, ticket sales for the
conference have dropped drastically. Reservists on Duty - an Israeli
NGO that works to counter BDS efforts - asserted that all this is
part of a "shameful conspiracy" whereby "BDS infiltrates more and
more organizations in order to further its boycott on Israel". [ak]

Ban on Israeli activists from West Bank based on lies and misinformation | | Oren Ziv -
+972
"Defense Minister Naftali Bennett announced Saturday night that he
had issued administrative restraining orders against 30 Israeli
left-wing and anarchist activists, barring them entry to the West
Bank in order to stop them from joining the weekly, Palestinian-led
protests against the separation barrier and the
settlements...Bennett’s announcement feels like it may have been
relevant in 2005 when members of Anarchists Against the Wall would
regularly join Palestinians in the West Bank. But the Palestinian
popular struggle, which began with the building of the wall in 2002,
and included demonstrations, marches, and direct actions, has
reached a nadir over the past years." ca | 20/1/2020 |

`Talking of Israeli Human Rights violations is causing me emotional distress and diminishes my enjoyment of Sabbath services` | | Alison Weir - If Americans Knew - In 2002 Henry Herskovitz, a member
of the Beth Israel Congregation in Ann Arbor, visited the
Palestinian Occupied Territories. Shocked by what he saw there, he
tried to give a talk to his synagogue about his trip, but was
refused. The Beth Israel Congregation takes a clear position -
hosting Israeli soldiers for talks, waving Israeli flags and
offering prayers for the State of Israel - and is not interested in
negative views. Forbidden to speak inside the synagogue, Henry
Herskovitz with some like minded friends started the "Jewish
Witnesses for Peace" group, which is holding a weekly vigil
outside the synagogue for the past 16 years. Now, Beth Israel member
Marvin Gerber has filed suit in a Federal court, seeking both to
forbid continuation of the weekly vigil and to order participants to
pay him compensations, on the grounds that having to see signs
accusing Israel of war crimes and Human Rights violations "offend
and anger him, cause extreme emotional distress, significantly
diminish his enjoyment in attending sabbath services and adversely
affect his willingness to attend.” The case seems likely to go into
a jury trial and draw considerable attention to the protesters -
much more than they gain by just standing quietly outside the
synagogue. [ak]

The Freedom Theatre that uses interactive theatre and cultural
activism to bear witness, raise awareness and build alliances
throughout occupied Palestine and beyond. Initiated in 2011, the

key sites of oppression and resistance in the West Bank, gathering
internationals and Palestinians who come to learn from and engage in
solidarity actions with community members.

Demo Wed.Free Anwar ‘Abid, Adam Mahmoud, Saleh Abu ‘Asab, Fayez Muheisen, Nadim a-Safadi, Jonathan Pollak, and all the Occupation’s prisoners | | Einat Podjarny - Tomorrow, Wednesday January 15, 2020, a hearing
will be held regarding Jonathan Pollak. We will come at 10am to the
Jerusalem magistrates court to demonstrate our full solidarity with
those resisting the occupation, against cooperation with Apartheid,
and against Israeli colonialism.
Five Palestinian youths, residents of Issawiya, are also currently
in detention after violating in protest the administrative house
arrest imposed on them and refusing to accept the release conditions
they were offered. Jonathan Pollak has been in detention for over a
week for refusing to accept the release conditions he was offered.
In the shrinking space for resistance to the occupation, the refusal
to recognize the authority of the courts is an important political
action, deserving broad support. This action rejects the legitimacy
of Israel’s control, and seeks to subvert the separation mechanisms
of a regime that presents itself as democratic, yet in practice is a
democracy for Jewish Israelis only, and a military dictatorship for
Palestinians.[ak] | 14/1/2020 |

Arrest of Israeli activist shows extreme-right group working with the state | | Oren Ziv -
+972
"Anti-occupation activist Jonathan Pollak`s arrest could only have
come about as a result of coordination between the police, the
courts, and the extreme-right group suing him...Pollak is one of
three Israelis being sued by Ad Kan, an extreme-right group that has
previously infiltrated and secretly taped Israeli human rights
organizations. The private prosecution attempt, the first of its
kind, focuses on the trio’s participation in protests against the
West Bank separation wall and accuses the defendants of “attacking
IDF soldiers and Border Police officers.” ca | 11/1/2020 |

Palestinians in Gaza are bringing their stories of siege to Israelis | | Orly Noy - +972 - “My name is Ahmed and I live in Gaza. This year I celebrated my 25th birthday. I work as a journalist for a Palestinian media outlet published in Gaza. Young people such as myself — journalists, poets, authors — decided to translate our texts to Hebrew. We want our voices to reach you directly, without filters, out of a sense that Gaza is represented in the Israeli media in a shallow way. [bz] | 7/1/2020 |

Undercover police arrest prominent Israeli anti-occupation activist | | Oren Ziv - +972 - When Israeli authorities did not see it fit to charge the three activists, Ad Kan — which came to prominence in the last few years for sending its employees to infiltrate human rights organizations and record their every move with hidden cameras — took matters into their own hands. The organization claims it was involved with Monday morning’s arrest, and noted that police had surrounded the area where Pollak works in order to prevent him escaping.
Pollak, however, repeatedly refused to appear in court, saying he did not recognize the legitimacy of a system that maintains a “military dictatorship” over “subjects that lack all basic democratic rights” in the West Bank and Gaza or are “second-class citizens” in Israel.

To Prison, Again, for Protesting Against Israel`s Colonial Rule | | Jonathan Pollak - Haaretz - My Palestinian comrades do not enjoy the luxury of being tried in the relatively comfortable conditions of the Israeli courts. Rather, they are tried as subjects in the parody of a legal system that are Israel’s military courts. Unlike me, Palestinians do not have the option of refusing to cooperate with their captors, since the vast majority of them are tried while remanded into custody for the duration of their proceedings.
It has been almost nine years since the last time I was incarcerated for more than a day or two. Much has changed since. Politically, reality does not even resemble that of a decade ago, and none of the changes were for the better.
Personally, I am older, more tired and, mostly, not as healthy as I was. Of course, the price I have paid for my part in the struggle is a fraction of that paid by Palestinian comrades, but I cannot deny its subjective weight on me: from physical injuries, some irreversible, through sporadic despair, anxiety and sense of helplessness, to the encumbering sensation of loss and the presence of death – and the grip all these have on my day-to-day life. And yet, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Right now, just as it was back then, sitting in prison is better than any other alternative available to me. [bz] | 7/1/2020 |

Remembering Hava Keller, a pioneer in the anti-occupation struggle | | Oren Ziv - +972 Magazine - Hava Keller, a veteran anti-occupation
activist, passed away in Tel Aviv on Tuesday at the age of 90.
Keller was one of the founders of the feminist anti-occupation group
Women in Black, as well as Gush Shalom and Women for Political
Prisoners. She was also an activist with Ta’ayush and other left-
wing groups.
Over the past three decades, Keller had been a consistent presence
at left-wing protests, always standing curbside with a sign and
driven, according to friends’ recollections following her death, by
an unshakeable belief in human rights. [ak] | 4/1/2020 |
