States Are Cracking Down on the Movement for Palestinian Rights—but Cities Are Pushing BackAlex Kane - The Nation "We’ve all seen how the exception to Palestinian rights that occurred on the left is disappearing. Palestinian human and civil rights are right there in the center of our work as we fight racism in the US, as we fight unjust immigration policy, as we fight for queer and trans rights—the intersectional movement building we see happening is very resilient,” said Stefanie Fox, the deputy director of Jewish Voice for Peace." ca22/12/2018

Portland Trail Blazers team up with firm supplying Israel’s snipers Rod Such - Electronic Intifada "During 2017, the Israeli military bought a consignment of telescopes from Leupold for sniper rifles. The deal was worth more than $2 million, Israel Defense, a publication specializing in the weapons industry, reported.Under it, a Leupold product line known as Mark 6 would become “the telescopic sight of choice” for Israel’s ground force snipers, according to the publication. It is almost certain, then, that the firm’s equipment has helped Israel’s snipers to kill and maim unarmed protesters taking part in Gaza’s Great March of Return this year.About 180 Palestinians have been shot dead by the Israeli military during the Great March of Return." ca 16/12/2018

`Israelis don`t want to hear what I have to say`Edo Konrad - +972 " From Shin Bet interrogations at the border to coordinated attacks on prominent anti-occupation activists to the delegitimization of left-wing NGOs, authorities have been making life increasingly difficult for outspoken Jewish Israelis. For more well-known activists, the ad hominem attacks are worn like a badge of honor: proof that laying bare the cruelties of occupation is actually doing something. Then there are activists like Guy Hirschfeld, who stand little to gain from becoming a target. Over the past few months, it has felt at times like Hirschfeld, 49, is Public Enemy No. 1 for Israeli authorities in the West Bank — and particularly the settlers. A long-time member of Ta’ayush — an Israeli-Palestinian volunteer grassroots group founded during the Second Intifada, and one of the few groups of Israelis that regularly puts their bodies on the line in solidarity with Palestinians.. B’Tselem director at French award ceremony: Hysterical Israeli government response illustrates reality of propaganda, lies, and threatsAmit Gilutz - B’Tselem - The Human Rights Award of the French Republic was presented to B’Tselem Executive Director Hagai El-Ad, despite intensive pressure that Israeli government officials tried to exert on decision-makers in France, attempting to stop the prize from being awarded. “The hysterical response by the government of Israel itself illustrates the reality within which we work: propaganda, lies, and threats by a government which believes that silencing and cover-up will enable further human rights violations. In the face of this moral bankruptcy, we are here not only to further expose the truth – but also to bring an end to the injustice” said El-Ad. [ak]11/12/2018

Marc Lamont Hill stands for justice and equality for all.Rebecca Vilkomerson - Jewish Voice for Peace - It’s hard to sugarcoat the impact of what happened to Professor Marc Lamont Hill last week. Professor Hill spoke up for Palestinian rights and freedom – and got fired by CNN after what appeared to be a well- orchestrated campaign to oust him. Among the ludicrous accusations hurled at him were charges of antisemitism, and that he was calling for Israel’s destruction. But if you read Marc Lamont Hill’s powerful words, and know about his years of work on behalf of all oppressed people, you’d know that these accusations are false. Marc Lamont Hill stands for justice and equality for all.Everyone who works for Palestinian rights knows all too well the pain these kinds of accusations cause. They are an attempt to bully and intimidate us into silence – and unfortunately, often they are successful. But we won’t be silent. [AK]4/12/2018

Rejecting the traditional AIPAC tours to Israel, representative-elect Rashida Tlaib plans to lead delegation to Palestine Alex Kane, Lee Fang - The Intercept - Rashida Tlaib, Democratic representative-elect from Michigan, does not intend to take part a in the traditional "Freshman trips to Israel" sponsored by the education arm of AIPAC, which typically consist of a weeklong tour of Israel and meetings with leading Israeli figures in business, government, and the military - and no exposure to the Palestinain point of view. Both critics and proponents of the AIPAC freshmen trip say the endeavor is incredibly influential, providing House members with a distinctly pro-Israel viewpoint on complex controversies in the region. Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American woman to be elected to Congress, hopes to draw on her roots in the region to offer her fellow incoming representatives an alternative introduction to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She said her group`s visit will focus on issues like Israel’s detention of Palestinian children, education, access to clean water, and poverty. She may even take them to Beit Ur al-Foqa, the village where Tlaib’s grandmother lives, in the northern West Bank. [ak]4/12/2018
