|Palestinians Sentenced for Civil Disobedience||ROBERT MACKEY - New York Times - The arrests and military trials of two of the Bilin organizers drew criticism from human rights groups, Britain, the European Union and Desmond Tutu. Abdullah Abu Rahma, a teacher in the village, was arrested last December. Last week, he was sentenced to one year in prison by an Israeli military court that found him guilty of “organizing and participating in an illegal demonstration” and “incitement.” He was cleared of another charge of weapons possession after the prosecution failed to convince the court that collecting Israeli tear-gas shells and bullets fired at the demonstrators to prove that force had been used against them constituted a crime.

An open letter to the Jewish National Fund (JNF) Conference in Atlanta:
Equal rights, sustainability, and development for the Negev ¡V not dispossession of the Bedouin!
If the JNF does not change its policy, it would draw the State of Israel to a war against its own citizens, the Arab population of the Negev, igniting a conflagration that cannot easily be extinguished. We, residents of the Negev, human rights activists and social organizations in Israel, make one last call for the leadership of the JNF to cease destroying the Bedouin villages in the Negev ¡V and to stop the dispossession!

It was surreal, it was like an action movie, and entranced by the sight I had to remind myself this was actually happening – this overwhelming force for a 9.7 meter 40-year-old boat, the majority of its Jewish occupants over 60 years old, with no weapons and a publicized policy of passive resistance"||4/10/2010|
