20,000 call upon Carlos Santana to cancel Tel Aviv performance | | Jewish Voice for Peace - Some 20,000 people signed the call upon
rock legend Carlos Santana to cancel his scheduled performance in
Tel Aviv. Activists will deliver the signatures to Santana through
his children’s charity, The Milagro Foundation. Santana supports
that foundation’s good work, premised on the idea that all children
are miracles. The signatories point out that since 2000, Israel has
killed some 1800 such "miracles", i.e. Palestinian children, and
that several hundred Palestinian children are detained every year,
often under harsh conditions. In 2010, Santana cancelled an earlier
scheduled performance in Israel. Nothing had changed since then,
except that in the meantime Gazan children have undergone two
further major bombing offensives by the Israeli Air Force. [ak] | 28/6/2016 |

`Remember the injustices of the past - and of the present` | | David Palumbo-Liu - Salon - "Always remember, never forget. These
powerful words compel us to think about both the injustices of the
past and the injustices of the present. One of those contemporary
injustices that we struggle to remember is the Israeli occupation
and the deprivation of Palestinian rights" stated Pulitzer Prize-
winner Viet Thanh Nguyen when declaring his adherence to the BDS
movement. Nguyen, who came as a child to the US after his Vietnamese
parents fled the Fall of Saigon, was hitherto mainly known for his
penetrating analysis of the Vietnam War, a tragedy which profundly
affected his own family. [ak] . | 28/6/2016 |

A shorter road to peace | | Susie Lubell - Times of Israel - Last time it took him and his mom four hours to get to his appointment and 500 shekels ($125) in cab fair. One way. His treatment protocol is two days of treatment every twenty days, but it’s outpatient. He doesn’t stay at the hospital. A week ago a friend of his had mentioned an organization called Road to Recovery that provides rides to Palestinian patients who are being treated in Israeli hospitals. Raafat made a phone call to Nayim, the coordinator on the Palestinian side, and now here he was in my car. [Including link to fundraiser-bz] | 28/6/2016 |

In military prison there is no such thing as stepping up to protect a friend | | Tair Kaminer`s new blog - (...) when she was no longer able to respond and her tears were flowing, they chose to give her "the red line" treatment. Girls here also call it "the humiliation line" and there are myths aplenty about it, because surveillance cameras don`t operate there and the commanders can do whatever they please. As they told Nufar there, "this is my yard and here you play by my rules". What exactly happened to her there, I don`t know.

`Lieberman will not dissuade us from continuing our interaction with the Israeli society!` | | Palestinian Committee for Interaction with the Israeli Society -
Lieberman`s decision to curtail the movement of
Mohammad Madani, our committee`s Chair, comes as no surprise.
The defence minister is annoyed by any rapprochement between Palestinians and
Israelis, as by any entente among the Israelis themselves, Arabs and
Jews. But Lieberman’s decision will not dissuade us from continuing
our interaction with various layers of the Israeli society. We had
contact with no less than 70 Knesset Members, from a broad spectrum of
Israeli political parties, as well as diverse Jewish groups of both
Oriental (Sephardic) and Western (Ashkenazi) origin, with lecturers,
scholars, researchers, university students and representatives of
various civil society institutions. We have
no intention of stopping all this. [ak] | 21/6/2016 |

He is the hardened résistant, a symbol of the Palestinian national movement. "My release is bound to happen, sooner or later,” says Marwan Barghouti, in a written interview with Le Monde.
