French intellectuals’ statement on Palestinian child prisoners published in “Le Monde” | | Samidoun - Ahed Tamimi’s case is not isolated. (...) According to the reports of international agencies, including UNICEF, Human Rights Watch, B’Tselem, Amnesty International and Defense for Children International – Palestine, three out of every four children arrested experience violence during arrest or interrogation. They are frequently arrested in night raids on their home; 85 percent of arrested Palestinian children were blindfolded and 95 percent were handcuffed.
They are deprived of access to lawyers, denied the presence of their parents during interrogation and forced to sign confessions. They are also subject to “administrative detention,” imprisonment without charge or trial. They are often detained in detention centers located outside the territories occupied by Israel, making visits from their families difficult. The use of isolation cells for the interrogation of children is a practice that has been likened to torture under international law. [ak] | 30/1/2018 |

Model fired from L’Oreal campaign due to 3-years old `anti-Israel tweets` | | IMEMC - Amena Khan, a model who has worked for L’Oreal since 2016,
was fired Monday due to a vicious ad campaign, targeting her wearing
a hijab and the allegedly "anti-Israeli" tweets which she published
during the 2014 Israeli bombings of Gaza. The tweets, unearthed by
the extreme right Breitbart news website, expressed support for the
British journalist who at the time reported from the Gaza Strip and
strongly criticized the killing of children by Israel. That was
enough for L’Oreal to fire her. Ironically, when first starting to
work for that company, Amena Khan had been herself the target of a
BDS campaign - due to L’Oreal having a factory in the Israeli city
of Migdal Ha`Emek. Now, those who then campaigned against her are
demanding that L’Oreal reinstate her. [ak] | 23/1/2018 |

El Al pilots refuse to fly deported African refugees to dangerous country | | Melanie Lidman - Times of Israel - One of the El Al pilots, Ido
Elad, wrote on Facebook: “I have joined many of my best friends by
declaring that I will not fly refugees to their deaths. I will not
be a partner to this barbarism.” Noting the similar dangers Jews
faced throughout history, pilot Yoel Piterbarg posted a lengthy
missive on Facebook detailing why he refuses to fly the refugees
back to Africa.“The State of Israel is populated mainly by Jews who
were in their distant and recent past refugees in countries [around]
the world,” wrote Piterbarg. “Most of them went through the
Holocaust, many were forcibly expelled from their countries, and
many emigrated voluntarily to better their situation to better
countries that agreed to accept and care for them.” [ak]

Military court still mulls jailing of Tamimi teen until end of her trial | | Yonah Jeremy Bob - Jerusalem Post - “If the court accepts the claim that the incident in the video does not justify being held in police custody until the end of the trial, especially when speaking of a minor,” her lawyer Gaby Lasky said, it will probably order Ahed Tamimi freed on bail like her cousin. She added, “Ahed was detained because of the feeling of insult and humiliation of part of the Israeli public, and the IDF prosecution wants to return the honor that was trampled on.”
The IDF prosecution responded by saying Tamimi was indicted on 10 counts, including numerous instances of throwing rocks at soldiers and that law in the West Bank in such cases permits holding a detainee in custody until the end of a trial.
There is also a debate over Tamimi’s family. Her father, Bassem, is revered in Palestinian circles as a Palestinian-style Gandhi for leading protests against the “occupation” and for being jailed over the years. The IDF prosecution views him as a crafty leader who has mixed violent and non-violent forms of protest, in order to harm IDF soldiers while reaping global sympathy. Tamimi’s mother, Neriman, is also under indictment and has been arrested in the past. [ak]

Israeli Anti-BDS Ministry Pays for Best ‘Journalism’ Money Can Buy | | Richard Silverstein -
Tikun Olam -
"Gilad Erdan’s ministry for strategic affairs has become a third intelligence branch (let’s call it “the third eye”) of the Israeli state alongside the Shin Bet and Mossad, It’s brief is to fight an existential battle against the world-wide campaign to destroy Israel, aka “delegitimization.” This primarily takes the form of a war to the death against BDS, a movement that is anti-Semitic and Jew-hating to its core (or so the story goes). The ministry is filled with current and former Israeli intelligence agents; and wannabes like the poor Shai Masot, caught on video trying to topple a UK cabinet minister for being insufficiently pro-Israel." - id | 3/1/2018 |
