Invite: Hear directly from Palestinians in Gaza on Wednesday. | | IfNot Now - Over ten thousand American Jews and others have joined
in demanding that Israel lift its blockade on Gaza and help deliver
medical supplies to combat the COVID-19 crisis. Many Senators,
including presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, wrote a letter
demanding that the Israeli government do what is necessary to avoid
an outbreak in Gaza. Now I want to invite you to join our mass call
this Wednesday, April 1st, at 12pm EST and hear directly from
Palestinian medical professionals and activists living in Gaza. We
need to hear what’s going on directly from people in Gaza! [ak] | 31/3/2020 |

Petition: International Criminal Court - rule now on the question of Palestinian Human Rights! | | Jahalin Solidarity - Already more than three months ago, the
Prosecutor leading the preliminary examination at the International
Criminal Court (ICC) concluded that the Court has “reasonable basis
to proceed” with regard to war-crime related allegations in the
Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the ongoing forcible
displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians in the West Bank.
However, having said that the allegations deserved to be taken
seriously, the Prosecutor then asked the court to first detemine if
it had jurisdiction at all. That is where matters stand now - unless
and until the ICC declares itself to have jurisdiction in the
Palestinian Territories, it can do nothing.
While the ICC weighs this issue, the Jahalin Bedouin and many other
Palestinian communities are locked into an untenable position. Their
status in limbo, they have no legal recourse to protect their homes
and livelihoods.
We, residents of member state signatories of the Rome Statute of the
ICC, and other concerned citizens, demand that the Court settle the
matter of jurisdiction quickly and positively.
This issue cannot wait. The machine driving forcible displacement
grinds on. The lives of tens of thousands lie in the balance. [ak]

Palestine and other world countries, there will be no marches for marking the
Palestinian Land Day of March 30, 2020" [ry]

475 lawyers protest Israel Bar Association intervention in International Court deliberations | | Adalah - A month ago Adv. Avi Himi, head of the Israel Bar
Association submitted on behalf of the IBA an amicus curiae
(“friend of the court”) opinion to the International Criminal Court,
arguing that the court has no jurisdiction in the Palestinian
Occupied Territories and cannot rule on Israel`s acts there. 475
lawyers in Israel - all of them members of the IBA - signed a letter
of protest, demanding that the IBA rescind that act. Among other
things, the 475 attorneys argue that contend that the IBA decision
is strictly political in motive and intended to support the Israeli
government’s positions entrenching occupation, , that it falls far
beyond both the IBA’s authority and area of legal expertise, and
that the move was pushed through in a hasty and underhanded manner.
"The IBA has never before sought to involve itself in any Israeli
Supreme Court proceedings concerning issues relating to the law of
occupation and the applicability of international humanitarian law
to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, nor has it ever expressed a
legal position on these issues. The letter emphasized that the IBA,
therefore, “cannot pretend to have any special professional
expertise at the international level. There is no doubt that it
seeks to intervene only in order to support the political position
of the Israeli government.” [ak]

Why cycling in Palestine is an intensely political act - thumbing the nose at occupation and connecting with the land | | Carlton Reid - The Guardian - “Between each valley and the next, there’s [an illegal Israeli] settlement,” said Hasan. “If you want to cycle for 50km you will be faced with at least two checkpoints and a settlement, maybe a surveillance tower, patrols; continuity is always broken.” [bz] | 10/3/2020 |

PHOTOS: Israeli women who have stood up to the occupation for 26 years | | Keren Manor & Shiraz Grinbaum, Activestills - +972 - In honor of International
Women’s Day, Activestills pays tribute to more than a quarter century of anti-
occupation activism by the ‘Women in Black’ group in Israel. Every Friday since
1988, the women have stood in the main squares of cities or at highway
junctions with signs calling to end the Israeli occupation. Often spat at, cursed
or violently harassed by passersby, they have become, for us, a symbol of
persistence [ry] | 9/3/2020 |

Ronnie Barkan’s speech against Israeli Apartheid in a Berlin court: ‘I stand here today as the accuser, not the accused’ | | Jonathan Ofir - Mondoweiss - Monday, three activists for Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel faced a first trial hearing in Berlin for disrupting a talk by Israeli lawmaker Aliza Lavie at Humboldt University in Berlin (in 2017). The three were pointing out her complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The three are Ronnie Barkan, Stavit Sinai (both Jewish-Israeli) and Majed Abusalama (Palestinian), known as the “Humboldt 3”.
Although they were recently awarded for their courage by a Copenhagen Mayor, they were regarded as criminals in Berlin. A protest outside the court ahead of the trial featured placards saying “Put Israeli war crimes on trial. NOT those who speak against them”. Ronnie Barkan’s speech, which he held at the opening, was breathtaking. [bz] | 4/3/2020 |
