Is an intifada starting in US Congress? | | Jennifer Bing -
The Electronic Intifada -
"Last month members of Congress led by Minnesota’s Betty McCollum introduced House Bill 4391, the first in US history that calls for accountability and transparency for US aid to Israel. Within a month of its introduction, 20 members of Congress have cosponsored a bill that focuses on Israeli violations of Palestinian children’s rights." - id

The high cost of freedom – Israeli army targets kids | | Reports -
International Solidarity Movement -
"What could be a simple report of isolated events underlines an ongoing strategy adopted by Israel. The choice of targeting kids reveals two goals. On one side, it’s easy to notice how the kids in question are usually the children of activists. It’s a way to hit the most human and vulnerable nerve.“Israeli authorities have said that we teach our kids hate,”Iyad says,“But who teaches hate to whom?"" - id | 27/12/2017 |

CO Mattan Helman remains imprisoned for refusing to serve the occupation | | War Resisters International - Mattan Helman, 20, from Kibbutz
Haogen, is again in Military Prison 6, sentenced this this time to
20 days. Mattan wrote: "I know I`ll remember this day all my life. I
will remember it not for being imprisoned, but for being the day in
which I mark my freedom, for refusing to take part in oppression".
Solidarity vigils took place in both Tel Aviv and London. WRI notes
that the IDF system of repeated imprisonment of CO`s - incremental
sentencing, each time a terms of a three weeks or a month in an
"instant trial" of five minutes without a lawyer or witnesses, and
altogether amounting to a long period behind bars - constitutes a
violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political
Rights, of which Israel is a signatory. [ak]

Israeli activists stage vigil to release the Tamimi women | | +972 Magazine - Activists from the Coalition of Women for Peace
staged a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Defense on Sunday
evening to protest the detention of Ahed, Nariman, and Nur Tamimi,
of Nabi Saleh. Some of the demonstrators kneeled, their eyes
blindfolded, while others held signs reading, “It’s not the slap,
it’s the occupation,” and called for the three Palestinian women to
be released from prison. After a few minutes, security guards
removed the demonstrators from the area.[ak] | 26/12/2017 |

Lorde`s cancellation: losing a generation | | David Brinn - Jerusalem Post - The sudden cancellation by New Zealand pop sensation Lorde was undoubtedly a blow to the mantra we, Israelis, like to believe of “BDS is ineffective,
everything is fine.” True,
Radiohead and Nick Cave gracing Israel’s shores and making sharp
statements against "BDS bullying" have made us all warm
and fuzzy - but they unfortunately, don’t represent the norm.
Aging rockers who don’t have
a young, merchandise-buying fan base to alienate will gladly play to
a full house in Israel. But artists like Lorde do have that fan base
to consider. And when a certain vocal segment starts bombarding them
with “Israel is Apartheid” tweets, they easily crumble under the
pressure. If this portends a trend of contemporary artists deciding
that Israel is not worth the trouble, Israel’s musical future is
going to be full of a lot more Ringos. That may be great for baby
boomers, but it’s bad for Israel. [ak]

Israeli Soldiers Continue To Target Journalists; 60 Violations this Week | | IMEMC - Nasser Abu Bakr, head of the Palestinian Journalists`
Syndicate, said at least 60 Israeli violations against journalists
and media outlets have been documented this week alone, in several
parts of the West Bank, including Jerusalem. Journalists were
subjected to live fire by the soldiers who also fired rubber-coated
steel bullets and concussion grenades at them, in addition to
assaulting many of them. The soldiers also destroyed, damaged and
confiscated cameras. “There is an open campaign against journalists
in Israeli society, and by representatives of the Israeli
government. On Israeli social networks there is open incitement for
killing and hurting journalists. We managed to document these
violations and collected sworn testimonies from the journalists. The
International Journalists` Association as well as the one of Arab
Journalist have already issued statements demanding Israel stop the
illegal attacks against the media in occupied Palestine."[ak] | 18/12/2017 |

‘If there were just one more Dalia, there would be peace by now’ | | Yifat Erlich - Ynet - In her job as the Civil Administration’s health coordinator, Dalia Bassa wasn’t supposed to save the lives of hundreds of Palestinian children, visit them in hospitals, take them on trips and treat them as the children she never had. “After the Oslo Agreement in 1994,” she says, “at first, things went well. There was a time when we used to sit together with the PA representatives and help them develop the Palestinian health system. In 2002, after Operation Defensive Shield, everything was breached, and Palestinian residents who had no one to turn to began approaching me directly.” [A human voice from within-bz] | 12/12/2017 |

Much more than a threat to peace --a hundred artists on Trump`s Jerusalem move-- | | Open letter - The Guardian - The Guardian reports President Macron’s comment that recent US moves on the status of Jerusalem are a threat to peace. They are much more than that.
In recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Donald Trump seeks to achieve through a declaration what Israel has been trying to do for fifty years through force of arms: to erase Palestinians, as a political and cultural presence, from the life of their own city.
The Palestinian people of Jerusalem are already subject to municipal discrimination at every level, and a creeping process of ethnic cleansing.
In addition to the continuing policy of house demolitions, in the last 15 years at least 35 Palestinian public institutions and NGOs in occupied East Jerusalem have been permanently or temporarily closed by the occupying forces.
Cultural institutions have been a particular target. At the same time, Israeli authorities and entrepreneurs have spent millions in clearing Palestinian neighbourhoods to create “heritage” projects that promote a myth of mono-ethnic urban identity, said to stretch back 3,000 years.
We reject Trump’s collusion with such racist manipulation and his disregard for international law.

Congress Member McCollum: US Tax Dollars Must Not Be Used to Detain Palestinian Children | | Congress Member Betty McCollum - The Nation - Israel is the single
greatest beneficiary of American military assistance, receiving $3.8
billion, some 25 percent of its defense budget, from American
taxpayers each year. Of this, Israel is allowed to spend as much as
$800 million a year with little transparency, accountability, or
oversight by US officials. Some of this money almost certainly flows
to Israel’s abusive military detention of Palestinian children. To
help sustain the occupation, Israel’s military and police forces
have arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned thousands of Palestinian
children, mostly for throwing stones.Israel’s military court and
detention system is unique in the world in its systematic
incarceration of children, in this case Palestinian children. It is
a system that denies basic due-process rights and is cruel,
inhumane, and degrading.[ak] | 12/12/2017 |

In Spain, hundreds of elected officials endorse BDS | | Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee - "Condemning
the occupation is not enough. Condemning attacks against the
civilian population is not enough. As with the institutionalized
regime of racial discrimination in apartheid South Africa, it is
necessary to end the complicity of the European governments, the
United States and the Western powers in maintaining a system of
injustice that has already lasted for too many decades". So read the
statement signed by 350 elected officials - including mayors, city
councilors, presidents of regional parliaments and members of the
members of the Spanish Parliament and the European Parliament. [Some
of the signatories are from Catalonia, others from different areas.

officials". ak] | 5/12/2017 |

Government angered by EU visit to B’Tselem event | | AFP/Times of Israel - Next week, PM Netanyahu is due to visit
Brussels for talks with EU foreign ministers. But just ahead of this

EU Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufret will visit an exhibition
on “50 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank”, held at the
Port of Jaffa by the Israeli Human Rights group B’Tselem. Foreign
Ministry spokesperson Nahshon said it constituted "spitting in
the faces of Israelis”. However, the EU reiterated that visiting an
event by a Human Rights organization was an appropriate way of
marking Human Rights Day [ak].
