North America Nakba Tour halfway through | | We are more than halfway through this year’s Nakba Tour, and it has
been wildly popular, to the extent that we have not been able to
honor all requests in all parts of the country, and in one case only
via live streaming. 89-year-old Mariam Fathalla (Umm Akram) and 25-
year-old Amena Elashkar have brought their powerful stories to
audiences in the mid-Atlantic and midwest states, and spread
awareness about the experience and views of millions of Palestinian
refugees that the state of Israel forces to live outside Palestine.

Fun Days on the Beach for Palestinian Children – Summer 2019 | | "Sea Days" - Letting Palestinian children who had never seen the sea
have a fun day on the beach is a small action in itself, which will
not change the overall situation. It
is going to be our 13th year and we have never asked ourselves
whether to continue or not. In these political
circumstances that threaten the lives of so many Palestinians, we
persist in our little resistance against the occupation (...) [letting] Palestinians and Israelis meet
happily, enjoy time together and maintain a spark of chance and
hope. The schedule is already filled
by groups of mothers and their children who look forward to enjoy
the sea for the first time in their lives. We would appreciate your
donation to help us go on. [ak] | 30/4/2019 |

Save Khan al Ahmar! And - give a bit of hope to Gaza! | | Donna Baranski-Walker - Rebuilding Alliance - There are so many good
reasons not to demolish a village. Israel’s High Court of Justice
has set Wednesday, May 1st as the deadline for the State of Israel
to explain why the Palestinian Bedouin Village of Khan al Ahmar has
not yet been demolished. This is an especially good moment for
Congress to weigh-in, privately or publicly. So, we ask of all
Americans reading this: please take a moment to ask your Senators
and Congresspeople to take up this issue and to call the Israeli
Embassy and the US State Department. [ak]

Israel to allow Gazans into Jerusalem for Easter after Haaretz report - and a lot of protesting | | Jack Khoury - Haaretz - Gaza`s Christians heavily criticized Israel`s initial decision, which they claim intended to cut Gaza off from the West Bank. Leaders of the Gazan Christian community said there`s no reason to prevent any of its members to visit Jerusalem and Bethlehem during the holiday, citing Israel`s claim to ensure freedom of worship for all.
Human rights organization Gisha, which monitors restrictions to Palestinians` freedom of movement, had also asked COGAT to increase the number of permits it provided and said there`s no justification for the last-minute timing of their announcement.
"Israel must allow all those seeking to practice their right to freedom of religion and worship to leave Gaza, subject only to individual security checks," it said. [bz] | 23/4/2019 |

Amputee Football Championships Held In Gaza | | IMEMC - Palestinian amputees held the first football championship
for those who have lost a limb, while living in the Gaza Strip.
Eighty players are taking part in the tournament, held under the
auspices of the Red Cross (ICRC). Twenty of them lost their limbs
while participating in the Great March of Return, along the Gaza-
Israel fence, while others were injured during previous wars and
incidents. Secretary-General of the World Federation of Disabled
Persons in the World, Simon Baker, launched the initiative at the
Stadium of Palestine. Baker, who lost his right leg in a workplace
accident, in 2004, and uses an artificial limb, was invited by the
Red Cross to prepare for the tournament. The championship kicked off
in the Palestine Stadium, which was restored by FIFA after being
targeted in the 2014 war.
Suhair Zaqout, spokesperson for the ICRC in Gaza, said that her
organization is sponsoring people with disabilities caused by
military conflicts, and is attempting to reintegrate them into
society via psychological and physical rehabilitation.[ak]

These Israelis Are Helping Arabs Make Good on Netanyahu’s Election Day Threat | | Eetta Prince-Gibson - Haaretz - Bedouin living in unrecognized villages have neither polls to vote in nor public transportation, so an Israeli NGO raised 75,000 shekels to help
Throughout the day on Tuesday, some 50 minibuses plied the roads of southern Israel’s Negev desert.
Focusing on Israeli Bedouin and organized by Zazim — a nongovernmental organization that defines itself as a campaigning community for social and political change — the minivans brought voters from remote villages to their assigned polling stations.
More than half of the approximately 160,000 Negev Bedouin reside in so-called unrecognized villages, which the state refuses to provide with a planning structure or place under municipal jurisdiction. Atiya al-Assam, head of the council of unrecognized villages, says that without the campaign, “most of our people just can’t vote.” [Netanyahu`s Likud appealed the campaign, but as the Zazim activists didn`t tell the Bedouins for whom to vote, it wasn`t illegal-bz] | 9/4/2019 |

Beit Sahour Twins with Tralee, Ireland | | IMEMC - The town of Tralee, Ireland, became the first Irish town to
formally twin with a Palestinian municipality. The historic
agreement - approved unanimously by both the Iris and the
Palestinian partners was signed at Tralee in a ceremony attended by
Beit Sahour mayor Jehad Khair and Palestine’s Ambassador to Ireland,
Ahmad Abdelrazak. At the ceremony Mayor Khair said he looks forward
to developing strategic relationships to facilitate real and
meaningful collaboration, in as many areas as possible, such as
tourism, agriculture, local industry and investment. The Tralee town
hall, where the ceremony took place, is overlooked by "The Pikeman",
a monument commemorating the Irish who struggled in past generations
against British rule. The town of Tralee suffered greatly from
British retaliations during the 1919-1922 Irish War of Independence.
This past has clearly influenced the Tralee townspeople`s feeling of
solidarity with the Palestinians and their outspoken support for the
Palestinian right to self-determination. [ak]

Fatma, a 25 year old activist from Gaza, sends her message to Israeli citizens ahead of the elections | | Zazim ("On the move")- "We want to leave the next generation a better future - that`s the main goal." That`s what Fatma, a 25-year-old activist from Gaza, said during our video call with 200 Israelis and 10 young men and women from Gaza. [Mostly English spoken!].
Just before the elections, we will decide the future of 2 million women, men and children in Gaza. We decided to remove the fences, to hear directly the young generation in Gaza - and to bring the most muted voice to the center of the election discourse.
In the face of cynicism and incitement by politicians, we know that there is another option - that of the hope and courage of young people in Gaza, and of our 135,000 amazing activists and activists who refuse to remain indifferent.
We have only one week left until the elections to spread the voice of the young people of Gaza to tens of thousands of Israeli voters. [bz]

Hundreds of Israelis protest Gaza blockade outside IDF headquarters | | +972 staff/Photos: Keren Manor/Activestills.org - Hundreds of Israelis demonstrated in solidarity with Gaza protesters Saturday evening outside Israeli military headquarters in central Tel Aviv, marking Land Day and one year since the beginning of the Great March of Return protests. The protests came as Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian group that rules Gaza, were said to be nearing “understandings” about a cease-fire following a tense several weeks that saw rockets fired at Tel Aviv and Israeli bombing raids across Gaza. Hamas’ demands reportedly focused on easing the blockade, while one of Israel’s central demands was that Hamas rein back the weekly protests along the fence. [bz] | 2/4/2019 |
