ISM Calls for Protest against Israeli Demolition ‘Charity’ Regavim in LondonIMEMC News & Agencies - "Regavim, ‘dedicated to the preservation of Israel’s land’, petitions courts to demolish homes and infrastructure in Palestinian communities. The NGO uses loopholes to ensure that only Palestinian structures, and not illegal settler outposts, are demolished and dismantled, leaving entire communities without proper roads, houses, or even water systems. Regavim has never filed a petition against an illegal Jewish settlement built without a permit, revealing that their goal is not to ensure Israel’s laws are upheld but to displace Palestinian communities." ca30/8/2019

The Intimacy of Evil ( Don`t Say We Didn`t Know!)Amos Gvirtz - On Wednesday August 21st I was witness to the ongoing evil that the authorities perpetrate against the people of El Araqib in the Negev, who are struggling for the right to continue living in their village. Vehicles from the Israel Lands Authority (ILA) arrived to enforce the law on the "Bedouin criminals." Then it was that I witnessed the intimacy of evil.It turned out that everyone knew everyone else. The ILA man seemed very determined. He filmed everyone present and handed out orders to his workers and to a policeman. I had the impression that he was not only carrying out his mission, but that he identified with it. The workers seemed to just be doing their job. The Bedouin knew him. They told me that his name was Yair and mentioned a disease he was suffering from. At a certain point, when he went to his car, he noticed that I was laughing in my conversation with a local activist. This aroused his anger … that I had dared to laugh. I reminded him of what the anti- Semites had done. [ak]27/8/2019
“I hope my decision to refuse military service and go to prison will contribute, in however small a way`Dror Mizrahi - Mesarvot Network - "“I do not question Israel’s right to have and use an army in order to defend itself. Those who came before me did everything in their power to protect a state that offered a home to millions who needed a safe haven. But the Israeli army nowadays acts not only as a defense force, but also as a main tool in the systematic oppression of the Palestinian people. We have all experienced a childhood marred by war and hatred, and we have all grown up in a world where we have been taught to fear and to distance ourselves from the other side. But I believe there is another way - talking about alternatives, mutual respect and a desire for change. It is the young generation which is responsible for advancing change. I hope that my refusal will contribute to the struggle to bring about not only a more secure future for Israel, but also a future that inspires pride and is characterized by tolerance and compassion.” After arriving at the recruitment center and delivering the above statement to the Duty Officer, the 18-year old Yasmin Ricci-Yahav was promptly sent to prison. Jewish and Muslim clergy protest planned destruction of Bedouin cemeteryAvi Dabush - Rabbis for Human Rights - The Mekorot national water company plans to build a water storage tank on the cemetery of Hashem Zana, an unrecognized Bedouin village in the Negev. In protest, some seventy Jewish and Muslim activists and clergy participated in a joint prayer and interfaith encounter in protest. Avi Dabush, executive director of "Rabbis for Human Rights": "In addition to the harassment and hardship that the state puts on the unrecognized villages, it now seeks to shatter the dignity of the dead and massively distress the residents who have lived in the village for decades. Since the founding of the state, there has never been any urgency to connect the village to water, but now all of a sudden the state - through a utilities company- arbitrarily comes into the village and forces its residents to accept its conditions for establishing a water tank system? We have come here tonight to stand with the village and its residents, raise an alternative voice, and show a different face of Judaism that respects the many faiths among us and seeks a shared life based on mutual respect."[ak] 27/8/2019

Jewish Voice for Peace holds Shabbat service with Rep. Rashida TlaibStefanie Fox - Jewish Voice for Peace - Rep. Rashida Tlaib should have been en route to her grandmother’s house last Friday. Instead, as many of you already know, Rashida was making the heart-wrenching decision to not take Netanyahu up on his conditional “humanitarian” visit to Palestine. The only way they would let her in was if she kept her mouth shut — a degrading and impossible demand of the lifelong organizer for the rights and dignity of all people. Rashida is a hero, and that is why JVP Action launched on Friday night with a Shabbat event in Detroit. We honored her leadership and let her know that we are here to support her and her commitment to human rights for all.20/8/2019
UPDATE : 30 Palestinian Prisoners Join Hunger Strike In Solidarity With 6 DetaineesIMEMC - "They issued a statement, declaring that “as part of our unwavering commitment to support our hunger strikers, a new group of our cadres is joining the open hunger strike to further pressure the prison administration and the Shin Bet to respond to their demands,” emphasizing that the occupation is fully responsible for the life and health of Huzaifa Halabiya and his fellow hunger strikers. They joined 19 PFLP prisoners who had already joined the solidarity strikes in support of Halabiya and the other strikers.. Halabiya, from Abu Dis in Jerusalem, has been on hunger strike for 44 days, since 1 July 2019. He is a leukemia survivor who was burned over the majority of his body as a child and requires medical care and follow-up. Still, he is persisting in his hunger strike and relying only on water despite the severe deterioration in his health." - id15/8/2019

Palestinian youth fight back on social mediaAmjad Ayman Yaghi - Electronic Intifada "The grassroots campaign led by youths under the age of 30 was particularly busy during Israel’s military escalation against Gaza in early May. Leaders of the effort have plans to challenge future Israeli propaganda promoting its military assaults on the occupied and besieged coastal territory. As Israel sought to put its spin on the assault, Ihbid activists pushed back with photographs documenting human rights violations in Gaza and factual counter- posts exposing Israel’s misrepresentations and outright lies." ca 10/8/2019

What Israel-Hamas deal looks likeShlomi Eldar - Al-Monitor "Following the launch of mass Palestinian demonstrations along the Israeli border in March 2018, which resulted in Egyptian-mediated understandings between Hamas and Israel, Hamas tasked its armed wing — the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades — with forming a buffer between the border fence and the focal point of the demonstration. In other words, the armed Hamas wing that usually trains for war against the “Zionist enemy” was being ordered to defend the enclave’s border to ensure Israel’s security...On July 11, Israel inadvertently killed Mahmoud Ahmad Sabri al-Adham, a member of the Restraining Force, after army lookouts mistakenly identified him as a Palestinian intent on carrying out a terror attack. The army was quick to apologize, explaining that two other Palestinians had approached the border perimeter and the Restraining Force member sent to keep them away was mistakenly identified as a terrorist and shot dead. “The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unit carried out a shooting stemming from a misunderstanding,” the official statement said. It continued, “The incident will be investigated.” Hamas did not react... Low casualty figures at the protests do not prompt an escalation on the part of Hamas. It sounds like a cynical game playing with people’s lives, but this is how Hamas has chosen to confront Israel. It conducts a controlled war of attrition under clear rules and with an understanding that every escalation vis-a-vis Israel could result in undesirable consequences for the organization. In this sense, the Restraining Force serves its purpose." ca 10/8/2019

16th Anniversary of Rachel Corrie’s Murder – An Interview With Her ParentsIMEMC News & Agencies - "...Rachel was killed on March 16, 2003. She went to the Gaza Strip with a group called the International Solidarity Movement. They’re a group of people that were formed because the Palestinians have wanted and the UN had called for some human rights observers to be in that area...these bulldozers would come up that day to the activists’ feet, pushing–these are huge bulldozers, D9, D10 bulldozers, D9, in her case, armored, 65-ton bulldozers. The come right up to the activists’ feet, pushing their dirt, and then they would stop. But at five o’clock, a bulldozer came up towards Rachel, and right behind her was the Nasrallah house, and it didn’t stop. It went over her and, her friends say, without picking up its blade, backed up." ca9/8/2019

Don`t Deport Kids! - the case of the Israeli-born children of Phillipine care giversUCI United Children of Israel - Over the past few days, you`ve seen them arrested, crying in disbelief. You`ve seen Immigration Authority officers breaking into their homes, hunting them in the streets.
You`ve seen the kids` friends outside the prison, crying out for the children to be released. You`ve seen thousands of people act: teachers, friends, neighbors, grateful patients, soldiers who were once marked for deportation themselves, and the mayors defending the children.
You`ve seen the horror. You`ve seen the love. The UCI mothers fighting for the children have joined the school parent organizations, and volunteers from all walks of Israeli society, in organizing an emergency rally titled: DON`T DEPORT KIDS! [ak]

Congresswoman Tlaib’s Statement on Travel to Palestine & IsraelPress Release - "In my attempt to visit Palestine, I’ve experienced the same racist treatment that many Palestinian-Americans endure when encountering the Israeli government. In preparation for my visit, my grandmother was deciding which fig tree we would pick from together, while Palestinians and Israelis who are against the illegal military occupation were looking forward to Members of Congress finally listening to and seeing them for the first time. The Israeli government used my love and desire to see my grandmother to silence me and made my ability to do so contingent upon my signing a letter – reflecting just how undemocratic and afraid they are of the truth my trip would reveal about what is happening in the State of Israel and to Palestinians living under occupation with United States support.“I have therefore decided to not travel to Palestine and Israel at this time."16/8/2019
