Here’s how I am organizing my Jewish community against annexation | | Sara - IfNotNow - I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, deeply
immersed in Jewish youth programming. My Jewish community raised me
to value social justice, inclusion, and equity. However, we rarely
talked about justice for Palestinians living under Israeli
occupation, and I often felt frustrated by the silence of my
community regarding this issue.
Years later, after leaving my hometown for college, I am back. I’m
organizing the Montgomery County Jewish community to take a stand
against Israel’s plan to annex the West Bank - and things are
changing.
It started with some old friends from my Jewish youth group and I
starting a conversation in our community about how annexation will
worsen the violence that Palestinians already experience as part of
the daily nightmare of Occupation. | 30/6/2020 |

BDS: Pressure the AXA and HPE companies to end coluusion with Israeli oppression | | Apoorva Gautam and Alys Samson Estape - BDS Campaign - Today, the
French insurance company AXA’s holds its shareholder meeting. Under
pressure from our BDS campaign, AXA has divested from Israeli
weapons-maker Elbit Systems and largely divested from its
subsidiary. But AXA still invests in three Israeli banks which are
listed in a UN database of companies that enable Israel’s illegal
settlements. HPE provides exclusive servers to the Israeli
Population and Immigration Authority - the backbone of racist
segregation, domination and control of movement. You can join our
campaign to pressure these two companies.[AK}

Coalition Against Annexation Meets Israeli Diplomats in 18 Cities Worldwide | | Amir Tibon - Haaretz - The Israeli ambassadors did not always agree to meet the representatives of JLINK. Three ambassadors who are political appointees of Prime Minister Netanyahu, and are considered Bibi loyalists, didn’t have time to meet. This group included Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer. Meetings like this have also taken place at the Israeli consulates in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco, as well as at the Israeli embassies in Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Copenhagen. “In each meeting we have between three to ten representatives of local Jewish groups attend, because it’s important for us to show that this isn’t a concern just among the ‘usual suspects’ of the left.
According to Kenneth Bob, president of the liberal North American Zionist organization Ameinu, “this action against annexation has been our first test. We realized a few months ago that this is how things were going to unfold, and that we need to prepare to take action on this issue.” [bz]

Trump Square fountain in Petah Tikva gushes fake blood in annexation protest | | Times of Israel - “Annexation will cost us in blood,” was graffitied in red at the site, which was inaugurated last year in honor of the US president’s 2017 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The vandalism was the latest in a series of protests against plans by the government to begin annexing parts of the West Bank as early as this week, sparking fears of a new outbreak of violence by Palestinians angry over the move, which would chop wide swaths out of their prospective state. Journey Into a Changing Middle East | | Yossi Klein Halevi -
Hadassah Magazine
"Two years ago, I published a book called Letters to My Palestinian
Neighbor, an attempt to explain to Palestinians and others in the
Middle East who the Jews are and why we returned home. No Israeli
writer had ever turned directly to our neighbors to confront the
misperceptions and distortions widespread in the Arab world about
Jewish history and identity, our ancient connection to the land and
our modern right to sovereignty. The culture of denial that rejects
Jewish indigenousness is, I believe, the main reason why a solution
continues to elude us. And so I decided to challenge that conceptual
obstacle to peace...The new edition of my book concludes with a
joint letter written by two friends—a young Palestinian-American
named Rawan Odeh and a young Israeli named Bar Galin who first met
at a coexistence seminar in Washington, D.C. " ca | 15/6/2020 |

New Poll Results: The Israeli Public Opposes Annexation | | Geneva Initiative - Over the past two days, the results of two
opinion polls were published assessing the attitudes of the Israeli
public towards annexation. The survey by Israel’s Channel 12 News
Outlet asked respondents about the “application of sovereignty in
Judea and Samaria” within the framework of the Trump Plan. Meanwhile
our GI poll asked, simply, whether the public supports or opposes
annexation of territories. Still, the results were remarkably
similar.
According to Channel 12: 46% of the public opposes annexation and
only 34% supports it. Likewise, our survey reveals that 42% are
against it and only 32% are in favour (see below). With these two
polls in mind, we draw one very stark conclusion: only one-third of
the Israeli public is willing to support annexation. As per our
results, a number of right-wing voters also understand that these
dangerous moves must be averted and constituted a considerable
portion of the majority opposing it.[ak] | 9/6/2020 |

`Annexation would cause a divisive toxicity of debate among Diaspora Jews, and completely alienate large numbers of them from Israel` | | Harriet Sherwood - The Guardian - “The damage to Israel’s
international reputation [from carrying out the planned annexation]
will be enormous. The UK government has said it will oppose the
annexation plan, and the proposed move would bolster calls for
boycotts and sanctions against Israel. The impact on diaspora Jewry
and its relationship with the state of Israel would also be
profound. The British Jewish community is an overwhelmingly Zionist
community with a passionate commitment to Israel.A policy of
annexation would call that into question, polarising Jewish
communities and increasing the divisive toxicity of debate within
them, but also alienating large numbers of diaspora Jews from
engaging with Israel at all. Under these circumstances, the
commitment to Israel that has been such a vital glue in sustaining
and uniting Jewish communities, as well an asset for Israel, will
decline. If asked to make the case for West Bank annexations, we
will not be able to do so. The policy not only lacks merit, but
would pose an existential threat to the traditions of Zionism in
Britain, and to Israel as we know it”. Among more than forty
signatories of this unprecedented letter to the Israeli ambassador
are some of the most prominent and respected names in British Jewry.

On Palestinian Naksa Day, Israeli Forces Suppress Marches across West Bank | | Ali Salam - IMEMCnews - "Several Palestinian demonstrations were held on
Friday, condemning the Israeli government’s plan to annex more of the West
Bank, were met with tear-gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets [...] The
protests were held on the same day as the 53rd anniversary of the Palestinian
Naksa or setback" [ry] | 8/6/2020 |

‘It’s a war crime’: Thousands rally in Tel Aviv against Netanyahu annexation bid | | Jacob Magid - Times of Israel - MK Nitzan Horowitz, the head of Meretz, told the crowd that annexation would be a “war crime” and would cost Israel millions as the economy is already reeling due to the pandemic.
“We cannot replace an occupation of dozens of years with an apartheid that will last forever.”

Israeli Court Rules Against Demolition of Dozens of Palestinian Family Homes | | IMEMC - The Ein Aljowaiza Neighborhood had always been part of the
city of Bethlehem; however, Israeli authorities consider it to be
included in "United Jerusalem" where the rules of town planning are
heavily skewed against Palestinians. Recently, the Israeli
authorities delivered demolition warrants to 38 families, since this
rural neighborhood is "not included in urban planning" and therefore
should not exist. However, Palestinian attorney Ghayath Naser was
able to win an appeal to an Israeli court and halt the demolition
plans. Thus, for once Hassan Brega, head of the Bethlehem branch of
the committee Resisting the Apartheid Wall and Settlements, had
positive news to tell. [ak] | 2/6/2020 |
