Israeli Actors Sit out Show at Settlement TheaterAron Heller - Associated Press/ABC News - One of the actresses, Sarit Vino-Elad, said she could not bring herself to step foot in a theater built on occupied land and which posed an obstacle to peace with Palestinians. "This is not a boycott. It`s my own little protest against a government policy that continues to build settlements," she told The Associated Press. "They are trying to make Ariel part of the consensus, but as far as I am concerned it is not legitimate. You want me to perform there? Solve the problem." Israel is particularly sensitive to such sentiments as it is constantly battling against international efforts to impose economic, cultural and academic boycotts upon it over the settlements. bz31/12/2013

Druze refuser Seif Abu Seif defies military prison authorities, gets harsh conditions New Profile/Group Against Compulsory Service - Druze refuser Seif Abu Seif, imprisoned for his refusal to join the Israeli Army, was ordered to cut his hair, as required by military regulations. However, observant Jewish prisoners get exempted from that on religions grounds, and Abu Seif demands his adherence to the Druze religion be equally respected. In retaliation, he was sent to isolation and would get no family visits until he gets his hair cut. His conditions are harsh. In the coldest December to hit the country in more than a century, the windows of the cell are permanently open and he is not allowed to close them, wind and rain come through, soaking his bed and laving the concrete floor covered with water, and during the day (5:00 am until 11:00 pm) the blankets he sleeps with are taken away, with no source of heating left in the cell. ak 17/12/2013

Earlier, the Dutch Green Left party (GroenLinks) also dispensed with G4S security at its national office, and two Dutch charities ruled out donations from G4S. G4S still delivers services to Dutch local governments, police, fire brigades and courts. Australian campaign: BDS is neither `racist` nor `antisemitic`Australians for BDS - The Israeli extreme right law centre "Shurat HaDin" made threats of litigation against two Australian professors for their support of the Boycotts, Divestments, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign. "Australians for BDS" was formed to counter that threat to Academic Freedom and to strongly reiterate that calling for a boycott of Israel is NOT a "racist" or "antisemitic" act. This struggle might have wider implications beyond the specific Australian case. ak3/12/2013
