Litigation works! Georgia amending and narrowing its anti-BDS law! | | Michael Arria - The Shift - You might remember that Georgia Southern
University was sued last year, after it tried to force Abby Martin
to sign a loyalty oath to Israel. Martin made a film called Gaza
Fights for Freedom and was scheduled to appear at a media conference
hosted by the school. As a result of the state`s anti-BDS law, she
was required to sign a contract promising that she wouldn`t boycott
the country. She refused to sign it and the conference ended up
getting canceled. "My right to speak at a media conference at a
public university was conditioned on my pledge to never participate
in my constitutional right to engage in peaceful political action,”
she said at a the time. “Situations of oppression, racism, and
violations of international law that are funded by my tax dollars is
something that I care very deeply about.” Now it seems like Georgia
is attempting to amend its anti-BDS law to avoid this kind of
litigation in the future. The modification would mean that only
businesses or individuals entering state contracts of over $100,000
would have to sign such an oath. This has become a pretty standard
move throughout states. Texas narrowed the extent of its law in
2019, after it was sued by an elementary school employee who also
refused to sign such an oath.[ak] | 25/2/2021 |

Should an Australian public health expert accept an Israeli award while Israel denies immunization to Palestinians? | | BDS Australia - Tel Aviv University announced that its prestigious
Dan David Prize, amounting to a million Dollars, will be awarded to
Prof. Alison Bashford of the University of New South Wales in
Sydney, Australia, described as a "world-leader and an agenda-setter
in the history of health and medicine", whose books constitute a
major resource for understanding the current global pandemic.
However, an open letter signed by numerous academics, researchers
and students called upon Prof. Bashford to decline the "tainted"
prize and refuse to be honored in Israel at the time when "Israel -
hailed for vaccinating its own population - is refusing to immunize
all Palestinians under its rule, as is its responsibility, and is
placing obstacles in the way of transfer of vaccines into Gaza and
the West Bank, entry to which it fully controls." Back in 2018,
Prof. Catherine Hall of University College, London declined the Dan
David Prize, saying “I have withdrawn from the prize – this was an
independent political choice, undertaken after many discussions with
those who are deeply involved with the politics of Israel-Palestine,
but with differing views as to how best to act.” [ak] | 25/2/2021 |

Webinar: Israel-Palestine at the International Criminal Court | | | 25/2/2021 |

WEBINAR: Israel-Palestine at the International Criminal Court | | B`Tselem USA - FMEP is pleased to invite you to join us for this
webinar — featuring a panel of Israeli, Palestinian, and
international legal experts — examining the latest ICC ruling and
its implications for the fight for accountability, justice, and
human rights in Israel/Palestine.
On February 5, 2021, the Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International
Criminal Court (ICC), found that “the Court’s territorial
jurisdiction in the Situation in Palestine, a State party to the ICC
Rome Statute, extends to the territories occupied by Israel since
1967, namely Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.” This
ruling – explained by the ICC itself here – opens the door for
investigations into alleged war crimes perpetrated by “members of
the Israeli Defense Forces, Israeli authorities, Hamas, and
Palestinian armed groups.”
This webinar is a follow-up to the ICC-focused webinar FMEP convened
in April 2020, in the context of the ICC’s then-ongoing
consideration of opening a formal probe into Israeli and Palestinian
actions in the Occupied Territories. That webinar — which attracted
nearly 1000 viewers in real time, and which has been viewed nearly
1000 times since — can be watched here. [ak] | 25/2/2021 |

Canadian activists call on Trudeau to drop drone contract with Israeli arms producer Elbit, implicated in Human Rights violations | | Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) - Canada’s
Transportation Ministry recently approved a 36 million dollar
contract for drone technology from Elbit Systems,Israel’s largest
weapons company. The money will purchase a “civilian”version of
Elbit’s lethal military drone, the same one which was used to kill
civilians during Israel’s assault on Gaza in 2014. Through this
purchase, Canada directly supports the profits of a weapons company
responsible for ongoing human rights violations against
Palestinians. Canadian citizens are urged to sing an online call
upon Transport Minister Omar Alghabra and Prime Minister Justin
Trudeau to cancel the Elbit contract, the petition stating "Our tax
dollars should not give business to a company which enables Israel’s
oppression of Palestinians!". [ak] | 11/2/2021 |

Jordan Valley struggle - mass destruction and reconstruction at Humsa Al Fauqa | | Ta`ayush - Another round of demolition and destruction of the Humsa
community in the northern Palestinian Jordan Valley – 46 structures
were demolished and all of the inhabitants’ property confiscated –
the next day the villagers and activists began rebuilding, supported
by the Palestinian Authority and diplomats who came to express their
solidarity; this week the Israeli army held massive maneuvers in the
Yatta area for two whole days, during which the forces passed
through Palestinian communities and caused heavy damages; settlers
attacked Palestinian shepherds near Tawane village, invaded sheep
pens around Auja, and continue chasing away flocks everywhere; home
demolitions throughout the Occupied Territories; On Saturday night,
hundreds of Palestinians and Israelis held a joint march protesting
the occupation and settler takeover of the Silwan neighborhood in
Jerusalem, and then joined the demonstrators at Balfour St. near the
Israeli Prime Minister’s residence. [ak] | 11/2/2021 |

Striking Palestinians workers triumph! | | Palestine New Federation of Trade Unions - After 19 days of an open-
ended strike demanding their human and labor rights, Palestinian
workers of the Israeli-owned Yamit Company go back to work, having
reached an agreement, considered "An important victory though still
partial". Over the coming three months, during which negotiations
will continue, workers will receive an increase of around 200$ on
their wages; the Palestinian workers will every July get a paid
holiday such as already given to Israeli workers; and at the end of
employment at Yamit, workers would receive severance pay, based on
the number of years they have been working for the company. Yamit
would not be allowed to hire new workers without the consent of the
Workers’ Committee. Negotiations on further demands will continue
over the next three months. "Achieving this success was anything but
easy" said Mohammed Blaidi, Secretary General of the Palestine New
Federation of Trade Union.[ak]

Virtual tour of Al Walaja – resistance and rebuilding in the face of bulldozers | | | 4/2/2021 |

Virtual tour of Al Walaja – resistance and rebuilding in the face of bulldozers | | Holy Land Trust Events - The village of Al Walaja does not appear on
the itineraries of tourist groups or pilgrims who visit the Holy
Lands. But for those who do make the effort to visit the village,
they will be struck by the beauty of the landscape, the warmth of
the welcome and the visible, devastating impact of the occupation.
All around the village, destroyed homes tell a story of lives
disrupted and families uprooted. Homes with roofs ripped off and
walls torn down reveal the intimate details of domestic life -
fragments of wallpaper, a broken basin, an overturned child’s pram
left in a hurry. Holy Land Trust have made their latest Virtual Tour
video in Al Walaja working with a local tour guide Noor A’Wad. Noor
outlines the seven decades of struggle this village has faced. [ak] | 4/2/2021 |

Rally for Palestine in Paris, Saturday 6 February | | Olivia Zémor - EuroPalestine - You may have read that the Israeli
Minister of Health, when asked about his obligations to provide
vaccines to Palestinians under occupation, replied that Israel has
"as much obligation to vaccinate Palestinians as they have to take
care of dolphins"(!). Covid and even curfew do not mean that we are
unable to show the Palestinians our solidarity, our support for
their resistance in the face of their persecution by Israel. More
than ever we must demand the lifting of the blockade of Gaza, as
well as sanctions against Israel to end colonization and apartheid.
If we don`t, who will?[ak]
